How do I get VR Player (for occulus previewing) to work in v2018?

In 2017 there was an option in "edit > preferences > video preview". Now, I open 2018 and there's no more option and the vr player window doesn't open automatically when After Effects launches?

Finally resolved this by installing latest nvidia drivers, the plugins were not loading in AE 2017 even after repeated re-installs and a windows restore. Not sure what caused this - possibly windows update. Hope this helps someone running into the same problem

Here's a question -- how much do you like tracking down the cause of weird bugs like this?

You don't?

Then I recommend you stick with AE CC 2017.   As is usual for a new AE release, the newest AE release is loaded with problems.  And you know your 260 stuff worked in AE CC 2017.

Somehow in the upgrade to 2018, VR player no longer works for 2017 either.. I've installed and reinstalled it several times, also i noticed in my "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore\Mettle" folder I only see "VRPlayer.prm" (premiere plugin) and nothing for after effects?

Hi CaseyB,

As I understand it, this is a Premiere Pro Only feature right now. Please make your feature request here.

Thanks,
Kevin

I just submitted to that link. This is so incredibly important. I cannot upgrade until this is available. Working with stereoscopic FX, animation and labeling is impossible without being able to dial the stereo disparity in headset. I can't be the only one who thinks so...

I have just ran into this same problem, I needed to update to 2018 as the company I am working with have updated and now I am working on another VR project. I do not have a VR headset so the VR player was the only way I could actually see what my animations looked like before doing a very long and lengthy render. On opening AE an error displays on the splash screen telling me to re-install the VR player yet there is no option to install it for 2018 when I try to - this is infuriating and impeding my workflow. Have updated my Nvidia drivers too just to be sure yet still it does not work.

I think Adobe needs to address this oversight ASAP as it was one of the biggest selling points to upgrade to 2018.

I found a solution two days ago that works for me. It should work for you too. The Kolor GoPro VR Player works as a plugin for AE and Premiere. It displays whatever is in your editing window in a 360 wrap. It also works with Vive and Oculus Rift and it's handy outside of the Adobe programs to preview you final renders.

Kolor | Download GoPro VR Player

Hopefully that helps.

Yes, this has done exactly what I wanted - thanks so much! If anything it is better than the original Skybox VR player as you can fullscreen it and when you RAM preview it actually plays back the animation

Thanks again for the quick response,

Andrew
