How to make layer appear dissapear

Hi, how can I make my layer appear dissapear while animating? As you can see in the picture I am animating a guy pulling a rope, when the guy pulls the rope I want the eyes to be closed and when it releases to have them opened. I know I need two layers(one for closed eyes, one for opened eyes and I have them!) but I don't know how to proceed and make them open at the end of the animation.. Thank you!Capture.JPG

Have both of your eye layers in the composition. I'm assuming here that one set of eyes 'covers up' the other. Then animate the opacity property of the top layer from 100% to 0% using hold keyframes -  select the keyframe in the Timeline panel, and choose Animation > Toggle Hold Keyframe.

Hello! Could you just animate them closing by hand?

Sorry, though you were using animate. Good luck!
