How to make particles from CC Particle World shoot out straight?

I am trying to use CC Particle World emit particles from the bottom of the screen and have them shoot towards the top. I want them to move in a fully straight line towards the top. I've tried using the gravity function, but that seems to only make it so they begin moving in a straight line faster rather than emiting in a straight line.

No. Wrong tool. Particle World will always apply some randomness that results in the particles fanning out. You will need other particle tools like Trapcode Particular.

If you mean in a straight line like a pen writing I would use a different effect. If you mean in a single direction like a jet stream or a flame trail.

In Physics set:

Animation: DIrection Axis

Velocity: 0

Gravity: -1

Extra: 0

Extra Angle: 0

That should give you a directional particle jet.

In Producer you can control the size of the emmitter so you can have a narrow or wide start to the particles. Keep in mind the particles will widen out at the end.

Unless you need a specific look to the particles that only particle world can provide I would use CC Particle System 2, it's controls a a little bit simpler.
