I want to be able to use motion sketch while the video plays.
For now when you click 'Start Capture' the video stays on the current frame but the 'Current Time Indicator' moves along the timeline and normal speed.
Is it possible to do the capture while the video plays in the background?
I have tried ticking the background option with the same results.

"Is it possible to do the capture while the video plays in the background?"
Sorry, no. The "motion" in Motion Sketch refers to the ability to move the cursor around in real time, not to move the cursor around video in motion.

Thanks Dave, I was thinking that was going to be the case, thanks for the help.
You don't happen to know of any way that this could be done?

Nope, I know of no way you can do that. While I've never tried it, I'm about 95% sure it isn't possible.
It sounds like it's time for Plan B. It would also help to know what you're trying to accomplish. In detail. There may be a better way to do it than the way you think should be obbvious.

Needed to do the same thing, and came up with this workaround:
Do a screen capture video of the background video (play with any video player) with mouse pointer recording enabled and use the pointer as the "motion sketch" target.
Bring capture to After Effects and motion track the cursor.

That's a cool workaround, but we really should be able to play a video under what we are motion sketching. Seems like a weird place to stop, when it comes to developing the motion sketch feature.
