July 2021 After Effects Community Recap

Hi friends!

It gives me immense pleasure to share that our After Effects community is truly global. Over the last few months, the community members that have been featured here are spread across the globe. Byron Cortez, for instance, is Ecuadorian, Oussk is based in the UAE, Jose Panadero is in Spain, Roland Kahlenberg is based in Singapore and so on. This month I'm thrilled to feature another community member who makes our community international —Hideki Takemura aka ToolfarmJP. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Community Highlight

ToolfarmJP has more than 1000 replies & 265 kudos under his belt and is a major contributor to the After Effects Japanese community. He mainly responds to technical issues in the community given his vast experience in technical support. He was referred to the ACP program by another one of our community gems — Ko Maruyama.

Hideki notes that he has used After Effects since After Effects v3.1 which was a legacy floppy install. He initially used After Effects just for fun. He used to watch many music promotion videos on MTV and tried to create similar ones. There was no internet connection at his disposal at that time and access to video tutorials was very limited. The printed After Effects user guide was the bible to him.

Hideki has been working with Born Digital as technical support for over 20 years. He has also been in charge of Toolfarm Japan since 2006. Toolfarm is a website which is specialized in After Effects plug-ins. He likes watching the VFX breakdown movies on Youtube nowadays.

Top troubleshooting topics from July

1. Aerender fails on macOS with error -1701 "AEGetParamPt failed at line 918"

Several users have been asking for an update on this and I want to reassure you that we're working with Apple to fix this.

2. Can't copy-paste text from other apps into After Effects 

The AE team has identified how this is happening and are working on a bug fix. Meanwhile, here is the workaround:

• Launch After Effects first and then proceed to open whichever After Effects project you want to work with. You won't run into this bug.

I'll share your feedback with the After Effects Product Management team. I know some engineers respond to bug reports on UserVoice because they are actually working on fixing them.

I super appreciate the response, although I have heard this song and dance from other team members to no avail. It's incredibly frustrating to see all the top feature requests in Premiere's Uservoice being acknowledged while only "Full Program Multi-Threaded support" has ever been touched upon for After Effects. Please sort the requests by top ideas and see how little communication there is with your team! How hard is it for one team member to take a day to go through and at least acknowledge the efforts your users have put into Uservoice? We have been begging for years, why is getting your team to communicate like pulling teeth?
