Layer disappears when when selecting 'Track Motion'

Hi everyone, struggling with this one. Have read around the forums and can't find out why this is happening, using latest version of AE CC. Recently installed on a new laptop.

Basically after setting up a new video composition and selecting the 'Tracker' feature, then selecting 'Track Motion' I was hoping that this would show a track point that I can edit and move around the frame. For some reason the video layer disappears, leaving a black screen in the composition area and no track point? Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks for this Rick, I had tried all of these but still no luck.

As it turned out for some reason this finally did display but only when i dragged the composition window downwards to make it larger. Too large and it is disappeared, too small and the same thing? Very 'glitchy', in fact there have been quite a few glitchy screen trails when moving various windows around within AE. Have set up a RAM/Cache settings to as optimum as I can etc. The new laptop I'm using is a HP Pavillion 14', not sure

First, use the motion tracking workspace.

Second, make sure the footage layer is selected in the timeline

Third, select your track motion option in the Tracker Panel

The layer panel should open and your footage should be available. If it is not then you did not have the footage selected in the timeline. If you do not see footage then check the Motion Source option in the Tracker Panel. If the footage is still not visible then check the CTI's position in the timeline and make sure that it is positioned somewhere after the in point of before the out point of the layer you want to track.

If you are new to AE or do not understand what I have said check the help files and study up on how to use AE's tracker features by just typing tracking or motion tracking in the search help field at the top right corner of AE.

Constantly finding I'm having to open window tab and reset work space?

Cheers!
