Lock text into place

Participant ,

Hi there,

In my composition I have a video tilting down on a cake and as I tilt down i want a shape layer(white background) with the text on the shape layer. I want this to be fixed to the cake, so as the camera tilts down it will tilt down on the cake and the text.

Really would appreciate any help on this, as I have a deadline to meet.

Thanks

Dave

That's what tracking is for, either conventional 2D or 3D camera tracking. Everything beyond that generic statement, useless as it may be, of course, would require to see to footage for a potential step-by-step guide or at least some basic primer. From the sound of it, though, you may be in for some bad news. Without any markers this may not work all that well, especially if you are very close in on the cake. It may not be impossible, but could turn out to be finnicky. So for all intents and purposes, provide the video and/ or at least some screenshot(s) of it so people can make up their mind and better help you.

Thank you! Ive tried to add the 3d tracker but it says "Layer size must match composition and use default transform value.". probably because I had to rotate the video for instagram.

Ive added a video on youtube, hope that helps https://youtu.be/YN66LpIe3sA

Umm, no. That will never produce any valid solve on a 3D tracker. Your best bet therefore would be to apply a traditional corner pin with the classic 2D tracker or mocha AE, but even that may not work. Your footage is simply shot the wrong way not just because it's upright.

That error message can be easily solved by performing your track and text work on a comp based on the original footage and THEN putting that comp into another one and rotating/cropping/etc.

But, as Mylenium says, that's not even a good shot for a 3d tracker. Use AE's built-in point tracker or MochaAE to slap your text onto the cake. More info available here: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/tracking-stabilizing-motion-cs5.html
