masking layer style effects in AE ..?

Contributor ,

Is there a way to mask out AE layer style effects (stroke, inner shadow, etc), similar to Photoshop's "layer mask hides effects" option?  More specifically, I have a precomp with a Layer Style Stroke around it, and I'm wondering if there's a way to mask out a section of the stroke.  thanks!

The Stroke layer style uses the Alpha channel of the image so the only way to mask out part of the stroke would be to pre-compose the layer moving all attributes and then create a mask with the mask tool or use another layer as a track matte.
