I am new to AE, I created a mask for a common lightsaber effect technique on a video I shot of my son on my iphone. The effect matches and looks fine when played in AE, but when I export it using H.264 the masks lags behind the video? Any ideas?

Show us please uploading a link of your exported clip, but first try exporting in another codec for example try export it with QuickTime container and Animation codec (then you can export it to H.264 from this exported clip).

Thanks. I have tried a few different export types and no luck, same lagging of my masks, seems a frame or 2 behind. Disregard anything after 5 seconds, I had only masked the first 5 seconds. Thank you for any help.

Try adding a Motion Blur to the layer, and in the Composition Settings / Advanced tag set more Shuter Angle.

Ok, I really just want to figure out why the two dont match after export and match perfectly inside of AE. I looked into the frame rate from my iphone as shown in AE and it says 29.973fps, I wonder if that is causing the issue?

Glad you got it fixed. I don't use iphones but your comment made me remember seeing previous comments about iphones shooting video at variable frame rates by default. So it makes sense that checking constant framerate fixed it.
