"No sequence data" when trying to import animation preset

I'm trying presets for this first time, and have run into this issue where, after going to animation and load preset, I get the message "no sequence data. Loading default."  I'm not sure why this happens, as I made sure all of the effects and parameters were included with the layer when I saved the preset.  Does anyone know why this could be? I'm on the latest version of Ae, and I'm a MacBook Pro user, OS X Sierra

Thank you both for your answers.  I think I figured out that it's because some parameter was not highlighted and did not get saved with the preset.  I was using particle trail with a vector blur and glow on it, and path data but I miss some part of it when I saved the preset.

Hello,

Have you made sure about the folder After Effects points to? Are there the sequence data in the folder?

And what effects etc. are actually included? What settings? On what kind of layer were they created in the first place? You need to be much more specific.
