Radial Shadow only goes to edge of pre-comp

I'm trying to apply a Radial Shadow to a pre comp within a composition, but it's cutting off the shadow at the edge of what the pre-comp is.

Do I have to enlarge the dimensions of the pre-comp? I would think that it would act just like any other object.

try any of these:

1. press the collapse trasnformation switch for that layer

2. use the Grow Bounds effect prior to the effect that cuts off (sometimes it works, other times it won't)

If using option 2, make sure that Grow Bounds is applied first and that Radial Shadow is applied second.
