Ram preview render issues (AE version 14.0.0.27, 2017)

Working in after effects from an Apple iMac retina 5K OS Sierra (10.12.6)

AMD Radeon  R9 M395 2048MB. using Mercury GPU Acceleration Open CL

We are experiencing issues. with ram preview rendering in real time.

A red warning presents saying  playing from RAM 750 of 750 fps: 23.xxx/25(not realtime)

In the composition settings we have set 25fps.

When timeline freezes, we have to force quit losing recent changes. This happens whether resolution is set to Full, half, quarter...

It was suggested that we import the project into a new project as a workaround but feel that this is bad practice.

Files had been created on an older Mac Pro tower 12 gig RAM

using Graphics card AMD Firepro D300 2084MB  via Mercury GPU Acceleration Open CL

and still run successfully.

Transferred offices and inherited this iMac. Is this a hardware issue?

Hi there,

issue resolved...

several calls to Adobe Helpdesk-repeated disconnections and no callback, I might add - " you've only got 16gig RAM, you need more..." but it works on a lesser, older Mac...

Apple  Helpdesk  - hardware is ok - wipe and clean install of OS and Apps...

Decided to take small steps - uninstalled After Effects, reinstalled After effects - RESULT!!! all is well - thanks for your interest Foughtthelaw & Kevin.

This couldn't be farther from the truth. Sometimes a project file can become corrupt and for whatever reason this can resolve issues. I would also suggest you try this.

as for freezing issues...we need more info here. what are you trying to render? is it footage? are there a lot of effects? if so what kind of footage and which effects? does the freezing happen during the ram preview caching or playback? does it play at all first or freeze immediately when you try?
