I'm a bit of a beginner to After Effects and I'm setting myself challenges to try to work through in order to learn how everything works. I'm trying to remove the shadows on a clip of a drummer in an infinity studio but the drum sticks moving quickly over it are causing a lot of problems in either rotoscoping or motion traicking, and the shadow is a bit intense for any of my (admittedly amateur) attempts at colour correcting it out with a luma matte to work. Any ideas?

Maybe the "change to colour" or similar effect on an adjustment layer with a mask that is around where the shadow is?

It seems to cause some odd tinting to the wall behind that makes the masked area not match the rest of the wall - am I doing something wrong with 'change to colour'? And this would work regardless of the drumsticks if it's pure colour, right?

The latest tutorial from mocha covers a very similar object removal issue.

The shadow looks flat, so don't bother trying to remove it. Just correct the rest of the wall to match.
