I all.
I have AE 2017, but when i try to render to media encoder (14.0.1) but AE tells me that ME is not installed, and want me to install it. Even when it is installed on my computer. Why is that? Do I have to get an older ME version ass well, if so, which will work with AE 2017?

In order to use "Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue..." in After Effects, you must have the corresponding version of Media Encoder installed.
So, yes, if you want to send Compositions to Media Encoder from Adobe After Effects CC2017 you must have Adobe Media Encoder CC2017 installed. As I'm sure you've noticed, AME CC2017 is no longer available for installation via Adobe Creative Cloud.
Is there a particular reason that you don't want to upgrade to After Effects 2020 (version 17.0.1) to be used with Media Encoder 2020 (version 14.0)? As long asyou have the drive space, you can have AE CC2017 and AE2020 installed at the same time.
If you leave your system as is, you can send your Compositions to the Render Queue and render to Best Settings Lossless (the file will be very large) and then import the resulting movie file into AME 14.

Warren gave you your answer. The latest 2017 version of Media Encoder is 11.1.2.35.
I wonder though...I have a workaround idea. What happens if you have Media Encoder 14.0.1 open, and then drag/drop your 2017 After Effects project file from your Finder/window into the ME render queue? Does that work? Obviously that is not as ideal as Warren's answer, but I think it should work in most cases.
