Hi, I have a bunch of layers of different sizes (countries of a map). I also have a comp to use as a matte for a transition that reveals each country. Instead of duplicating the matte for track mattes and resizing for all the countries, I would like to use the Set Matte effect. However, "Stretch Matte to Fit" matches the size of the comp instead of the size of each layer that has the effect. Is there any way to make the effect stretch the matte size to fit the layer size?
EDIT: Forgot to mention the layers are AI layers with "continuisously rasterize" setting on. I realize this makes the "stretch matte to fit" not work. Any work around without turning off the "continuousyly rasterize" setting?
So let me get this straight. You have a bunch of AI layers in your comp and you want to reveal them one at a time and make it easy. You also apparently have to resize all of the layers. I'm assuming that because you have to resize all of the layers you also have to reposition them. You also said that you have CR turned on so that makes me think that the layers are too small so you have to scale them up. If all of that is correct then there are several options.
Option #1: Resize the artboard in

Long and short: No, no and no. Nothing wrong there. It works as it ever has and none of it has anything to do with using CR even. Using separate track mattes for each layer is way to go.

Option #1: Resize the artboard in Illustrator to match your comp size, position the layers and size them so the illustration is exactly the way you want it to look when the animation ends, import as a comp retaining layer size and sequence the layers while animating opacity.
Option #2: Copy all of your existing layers in the Main comp before you try and animate the visibility of the layers, Create a new comp and call it Matte to use as a track matte, paste all of the layers into the new comp, animate the opacity of the layers to suit your design, then add the matte comp to the main comp and use Set matte for all of the layers.
If these options do not work for you then we need to see screenshots and have a detailed description of your workflow and design goals. We need to see the modified properties of at least one of the layers you are trying to animate. It sounds to me like you are over complicating the process.

Thanks all, for the replies. Basically, I'm making a template of a map with each country revealing in at the same time but the transition matte has to fit each country/layer's size. Then the user needs to easily zoom in or pop a country out of the map. So I was looking for a solution that would be easiest for them and most convenient on my end as well.
Only having one matte layer and using the set matte effect on each country layer with "Stretch Matte to Fit" seems to work when the CR is turned off. So I'll just make two separate comps - one for the reveal with CR turned off, and one for the user to manipulate the layers with CR turned on. I think this is what Rick meant with option 2. Thanks!
