This has been driving me insane, but how would you do the transition from solid text to video at the :52 mark? Stranger Things by Netflix - Opening Credits (1080p) - YouTube
That's nothing more than using a text layer as a track matte. Add a layer for the original red color of the text, below that a light gray solid, below that the video, on top of that the text layer. Now animate opacity of the red solid so it fades out and reveals the gray solid, then animate the opacity of the gray solid to reveal the video. Now pre-compose the 3 bottom layers and set the text layer as a track matte for the nested comp. EZ as pie. You just have to think in layers.

BTW, you could also use Set Matte from the Channel effects to pull the alpha from the text layer and apply it to each of the 3 layers, red, gray and video. It's just another way... There are at least 4 more that I can think of right now but they all involve layers.
