Stuttering while moving playhead

Explorer ,
Feb 15, 2022 Feb 15, 2022

I'm on a iMac Pro 10 core and I can't even move the playhead to scroll through 1 image with 2 keyframes. Do you call this an upgrade?! It's a downgrade!

Hi SiebeJanssen,

Sorry for your issue. Please share the following details so that we can troubleshoot the issue properly.

Does it happen with all the projects? What are your system specifications? Try disabling "Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels" in After Effects Preferences > Display. Also, try removing the third-party plug-ins and see if it helps.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Nishu

I'm on a iMac pro 10core with 64GB of RAM. After Effects is glitching all over the place when I move the playhead, even when it's fully cached. It evens happens with a fresh install and just a circle shape layer with 2 position keys on it! Here's an example with a tiny png file with 2 keys on it!

I already disabled "Hardware Accelerated Composition, Layer, and Footage Panels", but that is NOT a fix. Yes.. the stuttering is gone.., but then I don't have hardware acceleration anymore and the audio starts way to late when previewing. This messy "update" delays my whole workflow and is costing me money.

Thanks for the details. I understand that disabling Hardware Acceleration is not the solution but we have a starting point. It could be related to the GPU. I found another user having the same issue and they are using macOS 10.15.7 as you. As updating the GPU driver individually is not an option in macOS (it can update OS updates), try updating your OS if possible.

I'd like to mention that we're still investigating this issue and are not sure if updating the OS will fix the problem.

Please report back.

Thanks,

Nishu

Hi SiebeJanssen,

I see you have "Display Color Management" turned on. Can you try turning it off and see if that fixes it?

Don't you guys have a test computer over there? No wonder it's filled with bugs. I am not going to update my entire system just to run an After Effects version which should run properly on my current setup and OS.

I am also not going to turn of essential features during a production, so that this buggy version stops stuttering and acting weird.

Like I said, I downgraded to 2021 which actually runs "fine" (in a after effects sort of way fine) and there are no other differences except for all the bugs like stuttering, not working mfr, delayed start of sound and PNG issues. These are just all the bugs I ran into in under just 10 minutes of use, I'm sure there are a lot more! I immediately downgraded after that.
