time loop expression

New Here ,

I'm trying to achieve this type of animation where shapes move in and out of the screen and loop. In the gif I attatched there is an expression but i don't know how to use it exactly. I'm more interested in the shapes that are moving vertically. I'd appreciate any information on this technique, thanks!!time-2.gifexpand image

Why would you even use an expression for something that simple? Animate the stuff with Motion Tile. Pre-compose if necessary.

I plan on using each shape as a photo mask. Maybe a better question is how would you go about recreating something like this?

I need the animation to last 30 seconds. I was thinking the screens in each column would loop as they go on and off screen... if that makes sense

Same principle. Lay out your screens in suitably tall comps, use that as a layer in your parent comp, apply Motion Tile and keyframe the center offset. No need for any expressions.

Ok that works! But I still need each square to have a different image inside

You Insert them in the pre-comps.

Right. I inserted my image in the pre-comp. Motion tile repeats it. I need these squares in each column to have different images in them

You seem to completely misunderstand the process, no offense. You are supposed to build your strips in separate comps with all the screens in the order you need them. Motion Tile is merely a means of creating the seamless motion, not to actually repeat anything.

I hate to bother you again but I have one more question. I need to have the strips to ease to a stop and a few seconds later ease back to go. How would you go about doing that?
