Tutorial Recommendations

Hi All.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a free tutorial that can show me how to take a PNG logo that includes words and/or a logo and make it do cool, clean, modern things. Ha. Such as movements, shining, reflecting, etc?

I've hit the internet already for some home made ones. Something like this one is great. It's clean and classic. But, I want to take it a step further with someone's logo.

After Effects Tutorial | Clean Modern Title - YouTube

For example taking a real estate broker's, charitable organization's, etc. etc. png logo and making it very clean and up to today's titling standards.

I'm a seasoned photographer, videographer and editor looking to start my jump into after effects (and maybe stop there as far as self-produced effects.)

Thank you in advance.

Modern stuff tends to be flat with maybe a bit of texture - no shining or reflecting.

There isn't much to learn to that style except how to use basic animation tools like the graph editor. Honestly, the first good step is learning the basics of how to use AE.

After Effects is not like Photoshop or Premiere Pro. It is the most complicated piece of software Adobe makes. Be prepared to not really get a good grasp on it until you've been working with it for a month or two. The learn tab that shows up when you first start After Effects is a really good place to start (assuming you're using CC 2018). They just released a whole new series to get you up and running.

Hi Kevin!

While I appreciate those responses I did receive, I can't say that they answered my question.

I'm a sole proprietor. I was looking for some cost-effective tutorials I could watch to get me on my way to being able to create simple lower thirds or title sequences that are modern and current. I do find the "learn" tab - which was mentioned - to be a starting point.

Hi,

I always recommend Lynda.com as most of the instructors that are my most favorite colleagues have courseware there. There are some standouts on YouTube, as well. You just have to be a bit choosy when looking around there: After Effects Tutorials w/ Mikey - YouTube  is one of my faves, as I know him personally. Great guy. Have a play there.

Thanks,

Kevin

It's a difficult question to answer only because a lower third is just the name for 2-3 lines at the bottom of the screen that animate on/off. At their heart they are all the same. The what and how are really an amalgamation of what you already know and applying that to the L3 framework. If you want to learn After Effects through the lens of L3s then I agree with Kevin re: Mikey. I don't know him but he makes good tuts. I also recommend Mt Mograph, he's well known in the motion design workflow world and makes good tuts. Here's his L3: Summit 48 - 5 Minute Lower Third - After Effects - YouTube

This one also teaches some good core ideas. Minimalist Lower Third After Effects Tutorial - YouTube
