hi all,
i've been a print designer for a long time, and have spent time using AE over the years. i love this app, i love the depth of what it can do, and i get an excited feeling at what i've created with it. i'm getting stale at my job, there's not much of an opportunity to do mo-graph stuff, but i can some. i'm tired of the print design work i do, just feel bored w/ it all (i'm 55, so more mid-life "WTF am i doing?" kind of thing is going on).
recently, my workload has lessened, and i'm taking tons of AE tutorials on linkedin/learning (formerly lynda . com). i've taken Mograph Techniques: Shape Animation in After Effects, Creating a Handmade Look in After Effects: 1 Paper Cutout and Stop Motion, Motion Graphic Design: Animation, After Effects CC 2018 Essential Training: Motion Graphics, After Effects Guru: Animating Infographics, After Effects Guru: Animating Logos, and After Effects Guru: Animating Typography.
i'm also doing on on VFX essential training. it's cool, but i get my thrills on the mo-graph stuff. SO: pointers for other places for mo-graph tutorials? or really good ones on linkedin? i know this is already a TL/DR deal, but i have queued up on linkedin: Mograph Techniques: Physics Simulations in After Effects, Logo Animation Techniques, After Effects Breakdowns: Social Tech Infographics, Storytelling for Designers, After Effects Breakdowns: N-Trig Commercial, After Effects Guru: Expressions, After Effects Guru: Creating Presets and Controllers, After Effects Guru: Integrating Type into Video Volume 2, After Effects Guru: Mastering the Timeline, and After Effects Hidden Gems
I'd look in to a program like School of Motion or Mograph Mentor. These will give you the WHY behind so much of the What you've been learning.

I’d recommend doing a one-to-one, structured course. As opposed to tutorials here and there. Where are you based?

i'm in columbia, SC. i've used it enough to be way beyond beginner courses.

To be fair, I didn't mention beginners courses, I mentioned one-to-one, structured courses. These are not for beginners, they are for people like you who have been through tutorials but want to take things further.

i know, i wasn't dissing your reply. i once took an indesign course at the local community college, i'd been using it for a long time, but thought it wold be good to see what was new. the instructor just read from a packet and told us to play with the app more.

Thanks for your reply. There are good courses and bad courses/trainers of course. Always check reviews and get recommendations but a good, bespoke, one-to-one course with a good trainer is absolutely the best way to learn.

thanks for those links. do you know how the SoM makes money? it looks free... the MM one has a cost upfront.
i'm able to pay something, but have 2 kids in college now, next spring when one of them graduates, i'll be in better shape.

This is an example of a structured course. I agree that, if you cant take part in a one-to-one course, this is the next best thing. School of motion have a very good reputation.

SoM has free tutorials and a paid track. Start with free. Another good free resource is Mt Mograph and WorkBench on YouTube.
