Unable to import CR2 into After Effects — [Camera Raw installed and running fine in Photoshop]

New Here ,
Mar 26, 2020 Mar 26, 2020

Hello,

I'm currently unable to import Canon Raw files .CR2 into After Effects (any version from 2017 to 2020), despite having updated Camera Raw and being able to work fine with .CR2 in Photoshop.
I used to be able to just import Camera Raw sequences as any other image sequence, and have old projects with stop-motion shots as .CR2 image sequences. Now when I open these projects the footage shows as missing and get the warning of missing footage after loading the project up.

Any help with is issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,

N

Without any actaul info about the camera, the develop settings, the raw file specs, storage locations and so on nobody can tell you much. Simple things like changing the exposure or aperture on a camera can have weird effects when they introduce malformatted metadata for instance and just the same using odd develop settings may botch the process. You need to be more specific.

Hi Mylenium,

Like I mentioned, nothing has changed these are .CR2 files that were being imported into After Effects before. No meta data has been changed. These are from different cameras, from the old Canon 350D, to Canon 5D mkII (mkIII, etc.). It has nothing to do with storage or settings. AE simply does not recognise the .CR2 as an 'Acceptable File'. I can import the same files into Photoshop without any problem.

Have youi actually made sure you have all the latest ACR updates? Mismatches across different apps would also cause loading errors. in any case, perhaps you should consider reinstalling AE and see if it makes a difference.

Hi Mylenium,

My Adobe Creative Cloud app says Camera Raw is up to date, if that's what you're referring to. I'll see if I can fit the reinstall into my schedule and give it a go.

Thanks

I've unistalled and re-intalled Photoshop and AE to no avail. Also, tried installing different versions of Camera Raw. Still have the same problem.
