Guys in the image from the tutorial below, this guy selects the jpeg image from the diffuse layer and his image immediately merges with the sphere....see:

This from 3:48 of the YouTube tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT12Q9O-Q30&ab_channel=VideoCopilot

But when I select the jpeg file my screen goes black....why????

Here is the image before selecting the jpeg image in the diffuse layer:

If it is not a GPU issue with your system it could be a format problem with the JPG or user error. I've gone through this tutorial and there's a lot going on that is pretty easy to miss. Make sure you have followed every step. It also helps to select the layer, press 'uu', and look at everything you have modified in the timeline instead of trying to match everything in the Effects Control Panel.

Rick I dont think my graphics cards are powerful enough

I am using the  Geforce GT 740M

And the recommended cards are here:

If your GPU is not on the list Orb probably will not work. There is not much you can do except to upgrade your system. One of my machines runs almost everything just fine except Orb. Add it to any layer and AE instantly crashes.

- Have you viewed through camera 1?

- Have you tried switching your layers onto 3d?
