After Effects Needs a Dedicated Mask Point Selection Tool

Every time I work with masks, selecting individual points without tripping over into the transform frame or selecting every single point on the mask rather than the one that I want is an idiot dance.

PLEASE - Just add a tool that ONLY selects the points on a mask. It cannot select or do anything else... just select points on the mask and moves them. No transform handles, no rotation popups... Just points.

Select the Mask or shape layer path in the timeline, choose the direct selection tool (v), and pay attention to the cursor as you get near the control points. If you want to use the Pen tool, do the same thing. Select the path, pay attention to the cursor, and use the Alt/Option key to control the Bezier handles. All bets are off if you do not have the path you want to edit selected in the timeline.

Maybe this will help.

You have confused my feature request for a request for help.

No. No thank you, I am sick and tired of "carefully" selecting a point or zooming in and zooming out over and over again just to adjust a mask.

On extremely rare occasions it works flawlessly... And then there is the other 90% of the time when you miss the mask point and now you are stuck in transform.

What a colossal waste of time.

This is at most twenty minutes of coding and save so much time and frustration.

I edit mask and shape paths all the time with absolutely no problems. There are different keystrokes than in Illustrator, but the watch the cursor and use the right modifiers are identical. Having the keyboard shortcuts to the tools match would be a good idea, but I don't need a dedicated select and modify path tool in AE, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
