After Effects Text to Path

Explorer ,
Apr 15, 2025 Apr 15, 2025

Why has Adobe after all these years not implemeted a text to path feature in After Effects.

I have to jump through hoops everytime trying to remeber how this is done.

The point is, its useed often and not brought in at any stage of updates.

Ive been using AE for about 15 years, and we were doing text along a path then, why did AE go through iterations of CS1 - CS6, then on to creative cloud and never add in the feature.

Its lazy. Its simple code that should be in the usr interface as a button. one clecik.

I do not understand how people can be in fulltime employent and be so incompetent.

Everybody in the creative community would say yes we need and use this feature.

So why is it not there?

Hi there @GetmeGraham,

Placing a text on a path in AE is incredibly easy:

  1. Create a text layer.
  2. Draw a mask path on the layer.
  3. Twirl open your text layer in the Timeline to reveal the Text > Path Options category.
  4. Choose your mask path.

Does this accomplish what you want?

Thanks,

- David, After Effects Engineering Team

Every time we click on a button in after effets or any software - we all know it runs code or script, to execute a command.

So the inter face is in effect just short cuts. The software engineers decide which ones go up on the side bar and an icon is created. The code then for each of these selected buttons is written.

Im saying that instread of going through the steps you outline. somebody on the design team should have decided, a long time ago, that a basic button for text along a path - should have been created.

@GetmeGraham You ranted about a feature not existing, but it does exist, and it's quite easy to execute. If you've been using this app for 15 years, I'm pretty sure you know how to do plenty of things that take more than one click... and why it wouldn't make sense for many things in an animation-centric app to function that way.

If your actual request is for a single-click button to put text on a path, I feel like there's a much more constructive way to ask for that than repeatedly insulting the people to whom you're making the request.
