Make it possible to turn off layers in copied comps - and save it as a new state...

InDesign has this nice feature where you can place a PSD file and then turn off layers as you please.
The function is called "Object Layer Options"
This makes you able to have multiple "states" of the PSD - but only saved inside InDesign,
not the actual PSD file.
This function i often use for inserting multiple images from ONE file.

If i make 10 duplicates of the same comp I can enter each and turn off layers instead
of having to make 10 copies of the same one.

So visible layers should be unique for each duplication of the same comp.

Fell free to ask me for details 🙂

I don't think that's feasible nor does it make too much sense from a strict AE workflow point, given that it already works with references and layers and you technically only ever need to import your PSD once. It would be kinda redundant and implementing yet another dialog for this seems a lot of work creating a confusing UI when even under worst conditions you can just dumbly import the same PSD ten times and then just delete/ hide layers as needed and consolidate the imported files.

Sorry if this was not clear..
I was just using the PSD to explain a similar function via InDesign.

PSD workflow is fine...

What i meant was i'm tired of having to make unique copies of comps to be able to save different layers.

If you see this image:

Going into TEXT comp. Changing to layer 2. All my comps are updated.
Why not make each comp "self contained". So i can set it to "layer 1, layer 2 or 3".

Right now i have to have 3 comps with the same stuff inside, making updating a bit of a mess.
This is a simple example, but making graphics in +20 languages sure would make my life a lot easier...

I honestly don't see it happening for so many reasons. The cost-benefit analysis just doesn't work out in my head.

Well.. Lets see.
I bet im not the only one with this problem.
Until (if ever) its fixed, i'm happy using the "true comp dublicator" script. '

Excellent script, i use all the time.
