Can't find files in InDesign "Place" window search bar

I created a new blanck document. After that I go to Place (Cmd+D) and on the top right of the Place window, I try to search for a photo that I know is on my server (network). I can't find nothing.

If I search for the same picture outside of InDesign in my finder (MAC OS 10 El Capitan) I will find it.

I am using a My Cloud EX2 Ultra by Western Digital to store my work.

Can someone help me.

Thank you

Carl

    Hi Bertrand:

I feel like this exact issue came up here earlier in the week and that maybe it was a bug in the Place dialog box but not in the Open dialog box. I went back and looked for the thread and can't find it, but do remember that Steve Werner was helping that OP, so let's see if he has time to swing by and give a hand.

Edit: I found the thread I was looking for.

Searching from within indesign (or any adobe product) since upgrading to high sierra/mojave is broken

    Yes, that's the thread.

There was some disagreement about whether it was Apple's fault (changes in recent macOS  versions) or in InDesign's implementation.

I found that in the File > Open dialog, I could successfully search for INDD files. But when I'm in the File > Place dialog, loading for a placeable graphic file format (e.g., a JPEG file) doesn't work.

Just as a test, find the file outside of InDesign.

    Copy the file name.

Go back into InDesign, and go to File > Place again.

Paste the name into the Find field to see if it works.

Having experienced this same issue quite a few times, I can tell you what it always comes down to with me.

A simple typo in the Find field and it will never find the file.
