But on the plus side, HEY extend your image in Indesign using AI. Wheeeeeee.

Tools we don't need rather than the years of feature requests.

Did you consider to use Layer Compositions? IIn InDesign and Illustrator you can choose a specific Layer Composition, when you import PSDs.

Import PSD into Illustrator with layers option selected... then copy all and paste into ID... you may have to replace some of the bitmaps, but anything that was vector in PSD will come through as vector in ID.
