After updating LR today from the Cloud app on my PC it now fails with an error every time I open it. I have tried updating graphic card drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled LR itself but the problem persists. Was working fine yesterday. It is now unusable as the error occurs on starting up the software. Have sent crash reports via the error popup. Urgent help requested!

When Adobe applications crash, best to first try resetting the preferences.

Try resetting your Lightroom preferences:
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/help/setting-preferences-lightroom.html

Quit Lightroom Classic.
MacOS: Press and hold the Shift + Option keys.
Windows: Press and hold the Shift + Alt keys.
While holding down the keys, launch Lightroom Classic.
When asked, select "Yes".

The first thing that you should try is to switch off the GPU support from the Lightroom preferences and check if that helps to fix the issue.

Go to Lightroom > Preferences > Performance tab > Uncheck "Use Graphics Processor" > Restart Lightroom.

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/lightroom-gpu-faq.html#troubleshooting

https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/troubleshoot-gpu.html

If Lightroom doesn't start correctly the please see "Solution 2" in the document behind the second link.

Troubleshoot GPU issues | Lightroom Classic (adobe.com)

Another step is to try to reset the Lightroom preferences.

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-reset-lightrooms-preferences/

If this doesn't help we need more informations about your environment.

Which operating system do you use?

Which version of Lightroom do you use?

Please post the exact version and not only phrases as "recent", "latest" and so on.

Do you get an error message? If yes, please post the exact message or an screenshot.

My System: Intel i7-8700K - 64GB RAM - NVidia Geforce RTX 3060 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 -- LR-Classic 14 - Photoshop 26 - Nik Collection 7 - PureRAW 4 - Topaz PhotoAI 3

Things to try…
Reinstall vs 11.1 with Creative Cloud app.
Change monthly plan to Photography plan. Same $9.99 price. Call Adobe.
Turn off graphics card to see if that helps.

Thanks,

I have Creative Cloud app that controls all the Adobe programs on my Windows computer. You can install 11.1 or 11.2 right on top of 11.3. This will delete the version you have and install a different version. Do you have Creative Cloud?

Thanks,

Lightroom Classic 11.3 / Win 10

I am a late comer to this topic, as I was traveling and had not updated my home Windows PC. It was working fine with 11.2, and I noticed there was an update pending. After the update, it crashes repeatedly on startup. I have submitted the crash report with my email (twice actually). Now I too will roll back.

Same issue. It's disappointing to have a LRC crash like this. Rolling back to 11.2, hope it works.

Same thing with me! I just returned to 11.2, and I have no crash with this version.

On a fully up to date Windows 10 Pro machine. No driver updates recently, gfx driver has been same version for at least 6 months.

Confirm that reverting to 11.2 of Lightroom Classic seems to resolve the problem. The crashing started about the time of the 11.3 update.

I have two catalogues, the smaller one (55MB) seems unaffected. The larger one (over 1GB) normally crashes on startup, but sometimes I can get it open and then runs fine for a few minutes. Always the same crash though.

I have reverted to various backups of the catalogue going back over a month and they all crash eventually.

It may be book module related - even though LR opens on the Library is shows a message "no photos in selected book" on opening. I use books in the larger catalogue, not in the smaller one.

Hope that helps.

Submitted crash reports. Downgrading to 11.2 is successful workaround.

I am having the same issues.  I sent the crash reports.  I went back to 11.2 and now it works.  11.3 does not seem to be working for this setup.

Google translation: "Lightroom Classic 11.3 / Win 10. After updating to 11.3, the program aborts with an error when it starts. The application window and the images from the last folder visited can be seen in the background. In the Creative Cloude desktop "Lightroom Classic v11.3" is shown as current. The bug report was also sent to Adobe. Does uninstalling and reinstalling help, or is there a simple solution? When reinstalling, where can I find instructions to not lose all the plug-ins, catalogues, ...?"

Lots of people have reported that Windows LR 11.3 crashes when it starts:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-crash-11-3-launch-open-catalog-faulting-modu...

Adobe is investigating and in the meantime recommends rolling back to 11.2:

https://www.lightroomqueen.com/roll-back-update-previous/

You won't lose your catalog, presets, preferences, or plugins when you roll back.

After upgrading to version 11.3, Lightroom Classic starts to load but then stops ,showing an unexplained error report, preventing me from opening and using Lightroom. Adobe support tried to help via remote access for about an hour, to no affect. They suggested renaming the prefernces catalog, again to no affect. Has anyone found a fix for this? Reverting to 11.2 is the only work aroung at the moment.

@DrewMcI have not seen a fix as such listed here except the downgrade of version.

Adobe have acknowledged the bug I believe and are investigating.

I have my auto-update for LR turned off now so I hope there'll be an update from Adobe on this form when a fix is released. I won't know 11.4 is out otherwise.

@Rikk Flohr: PhotographyI keep seeing posts here where Adobe Support is having people mess with the catalogs etc., to try to fix the problem.  Can't you pass the message along to Support that this is NOT a problem with people's catalogs, and that they should instead simply roll back to version 11.2?  (unless a fix is imminent?)

I also had this error. Adobe Support reverted me to 11.2 to get round the issue

I second that since I messed around actually for hours (by searching for a solution and trying out the wrong ones, by downloading and updating GPU drivers, etc) - when the workaround was so simple.

Why not simply add a warning/an information to the update dialog?

I guess it is connected to specific hardware configuration since I do not think that all LR users experience these problems.

@DavinM
Actually, this bug is specific catalog dependent.

It does not affect Mac Customers

It does not affect all Windows Customers or any specific hardware configuration.

@Rikk Flohr: PhotographyThanks for the clarification.  But I still don't believe that anything that Support is going to have a customer try do (with renaming, etc.) their Catalog, is going to solve the problem for them, right?    I assume that the situation is: if your catalog is triggering the bug, then you need to roll back to 11.2.  Right?
