Lightroom Classic and Photoshop export photos looking totally different then what i had edited

I can import any photo i like into photoshop/lightroom classic which i have lately started using daily and when i am ready to export i have to undersaturate the image so it looks close to what i had been editing it too in the program since when it exports it it adds a lot of saturation. how can i fix this and have it so that me exporting a photo gives me the exact looking photo that i have been editing for hours and not a oversaturated version. please help this is making my life so hard and its making me just wanna quick this program which i just dont wanna do, but ill have to if i cant get this sorted.

Ok i understand that windows photos is not color managed but that means that Instagram isn't either since it looks exactly like the preview in windows photos.

my workflow in Lightroom has been import a photo edit it in camera standard profile and then change the profile to adobe color and export which gives almost the same colors as edited.

how can i make instagram not strip the profile? (if thats the problem like you said)

What photo viewer should I use to see color managed photos properly?

i really dont care how the photos look like in preview it just matters how they look like for the client and for instagram.


Some clarifications about color managed applications on Windows:

  • The Windows Photo Viewer (not to be confused with Photos) is the only color managed native application on Windows. It's hidden on Windows 10, do a search for it.
  • The Edge browser and Internet Explorer are not color managed, and should be avoided.
  • Chrome and Opera are fully color managed, and will by default assign sRGB to untagged images and page elements – just like Firefox with Color management mode set to 1. So even if Instagram strips the profile, images should display correctly when using one of these browsers.

Suggestions for color managed image viewers:

  • Bridge. It's a bit slow, and may not be ideal for quick previews, but it's free, and included with your CC subscription.
  • Irfanview is also free, but color management has to be enabled under Options > Properties/Settings. Make sure to restart the application after enabling color management.
  • ACDSee Standard is my personal favorite. It's fast, and highly customizeable. You can also customize keyboard shortcuts, and it even supports single key shortcuts, like Lightroom. It costs around $40.

As said, it is important to realize that on windows many applications including built-in system ones are not color managed. This includes windows Photos, and the system default web browser. So if you use a wide gamut monitor with windows, you absolutely have to make sure you only judge color in color managed apps. All Adobe apps are color managed so there you don't have to worry. Most browsers, except the built-in one, can be set up to color manage correctly.

You need to use a color managed photo viewer. It sounds like you have a wide gamut display, in which case you cannot use applications that aren't color managed.

If the file is intended to be seen in non-color managed environments, convert to sRGB and embed the profile. That's all you can do. This will display roughly right for most people, on most displays. But not on a wide gamut display! Then you must have full color management. That's the deal you accept when purchasing such a unit.

can you tell me how to do that, i mostly post my stuff on the internet for like instagram, website and youtube thumbnails.

In the screen shot of the export window you have not checked the option to Add this image to the catalog. So whatever you export is never seen in LR. How do you know the exported image looks different in LR. Yes the RAW might, will, look slightly different than a JPG export but until you import that exported image, IE ADD to this catalog, you're not sue how it actually look in LR


i did the add to catalog and its the same thing. the exported im age is more contrasted and saturated.
