Presets are not available on every photo

Hi,

When I import raw files straight into lightroom classic cc I've got all my presets to work with. When I first edit a file in photoshop and then import it in lightroom most of my presets are gone. It doesn't matter if I import *.psd *.jpg or whatever.

You would say that I just have to import the missing presets, but lightroom still doesn't show anything after importing the presets. So now I'm a bit lost at sea here.

What is going on and how to fix this pretty annoying problem?

Thanks in advance Roy

This question is asked and answered many times. If you save a preset when editing a raw file, and you check the ‘treatment & profile’ option while saving it, then this preset applies a raw profile. Because raw profiles are not available for non-raw files, that preset will not show for a non-raw file because it is not compatible.

Some clarity is required. How about a walkthru. Let me run one of mine

1. In LR after importing my RAW files from my cameras memory card,

2. I go and post process to my hearts content. No for whatever reason I am in to using presets, Ok, In Develop module, I place my mouse over in the Presets panel, work thru that, click on the preset I want, and the image changes.

3. I get to a point where I want to make some edits in Photoshop. Lets say, I want to go and do a bit of content aware fill to get rid of that fat little Pig (oh, I mean that adorable child stuffing the Hamburger down his throat) . Ok, I do that, Make my mods, and then close, PS sends back a TIFF to LR (I have mine setup that way, pick your raster image file format as you see fit)

3. In LR, I now have two instances of the image, one the RAW (with LR edits) one a TIFF.

(Q)

So, here is my inquiry, the missing presets,

(a) are you talking about as seen in the history panel if you go and do a bit of develop module work to this new image? This TIFF (PSD, JPEG, whatever)?

or

(b). Working on that new TIFF, in the Develop module, are you saying when you click on the presets panel, none are available?

Continuing m=y example workflow

4. Ok, apparently I sent the RAW over to PS to soon, more LR edits, oh well, I decide I want to apply another preset. Hmm, in my case I can.

(Q)

Ok, I am not a big user of presets, currently my available ones are those that came with LR, and one user preset I was playing with. Is your issue with the standard presets, or third party ones?

My problem lies with working in the new TIFF (or jpeg, psd or any other file), if I import it back into LR after deleting the "pig" lightroom won't show my own custom build presets.

But user @JohanEl54 made it clear why that is. All my self build presets were build on a raw file, not ion a tiff, jpeg or psd.

So now I'm gonna figures out how to make presets that are also workable on my other files.

Ps. I'm not a fan of third party presets or the standard ones, I like to build them myself because I don't like to overdo things.

To make your presets work with all files, do not check the ‘treatment & profile’ checkbox when you save them. That’s all.

Thank you for answering the question an dit makes all the sense.

Because of my dyslexia I had a hard time finding the answer to my question in the forum.

So thanks for taking the time to explain, appreciate it!
