P: 24.1 - Where has Delete and Fill context menu gone?

Community Beginner ,
Dec 14, 2022 Dec 14, 2022

I just updated photo shop today two version 24.1 and I have noticed delete and fill has been removed. This is really disheartening because it works so much better than content aware fill. Normally you can right click on the selection to access this, but I have looked through all the menus and have not found it since this update.

@HooliganImages

It is a bug in version 24.1. It doesn't matter what others say, we just have to wait until they develop a fix for it. Hopefully sooner than later.

@Kevin Stohlmeyer  "If you do Shift+Delete with a regular selection tool (Not Object) it will bring up the Fill Menu."
Yes, it does bring up the Fill Menu but without the Delete and Fill Selection option in PS v 24.1
People in this thread are using v 24.1 and are commenting that the option Delete and Fill Selection are missing from both sources, whether using the shortcut, Shift+Delete, or right clicking to access the Contextual Menu.
We are waiting for news from @CShubert to get back to us with an answer on this bug. Until then users should revert back to v 24.0.1

My screen shots for both options showing Delete and Fill Selection missing.

Certo! Però l'abbonamento, come me, lo paghi tutti i mesi e non puoi avere una versione aggiornata, che funziona correttamente? Non mi sembra giusto, nè corretto.

@D.Calafato wrote on 27 December:

With this Update 24.1 there is no longer DELETE and FILL and the MATERIALS window no longer opens. Both were very used and appreciated and I do not understand why........ How do you restore them?

This is a known issue and has been reported. I've moved your post to the primary thread, which will be updated when there is a fix. Until then, you can revert to 24.0.1.

Please see the video below from PhotoshopCAFE to see the difference between "Delete and Fill" and "Content Aware Fill":

There is a difference, and I hope "Delete and Fill" comes back.

@CShubert Any update here as to why this feature was removed?

This response is for those who asked how "Delete and Fill Selection" works.

I created a video (while I was still using version 24.01) that shows how "Delete and Fill Selection" works.  There is also a comparison with "Content Aware Fill."  You can view the video on YouTube here: Using "Delete & Fill Selection" to Help Blur a Background - YouTube

Thanks for posting, but this isn't about the bug that removed delete and fill from the latest version, right?  It's just explaining to anyone confused what the differences are between the 2 functions?  I wasn't sure - or if there's any news on it being fixed.  Anyways, thanks for the helpful post for those who get the 2 confused.

Thanks for taking a look at this thread and alerting the team.  It feels somehow wrong to delibrately not update photoshop to the latest - so I look forward to it being fixed!  Thank you.

Hallo

UPDATE: Being the impulsive, impatient person I am, I decided to call Adobe myself. What the agent told me was that the feature had been removed because of some issues they were having with it (he didn't detail the issue). However, he did say that they were working on the next update and that the delete and fill option should be back with the new update.

I asked when they might happen and he wasn't able to give me a specific date, but sounds like within next month or two.

I wonder why I don't see that update - only 24.1.0

Do you have a personal Creative Cloud account or a Team Account?  What country are you in?

Personal account and I am in the UK. It may be rolling out gradually as I know, from other threads today, that others have that version.

Try closing Photoshop, going to the CC app  and using 'Check for updates' in that CC app.

All Creative Cloud updates roll out over a period of time (like a day or so), so if you don't see an update, just check again, it should come through very soon.
