P: Ctrl+0 (fit to screen) margin around the image has disappeared

All the time Ctrl+0 worked as expected: Fitting the image left a several pixel margin around the image so the selection and other tools could be clicked slightly outside the image.

Now, since vesrion 23.3 the Ctrl+0 is changed: the image fits without leaving the small margin. Without the margin it is impossible to start the selection exactly from the corner of the image, etc.

The margin around the image should be restored in an upcoming version. Initially it was introduced for usability purposes.

It doesn't look like the actual issue the op was talking about was fixed, but instead adobe removed all spacing around the image.

In photoshop versions pre 22.4.2 using Crtl + O or Cmd + O (Fit to Screen) would leave a margin between the canvas edge and document window frame. Now and in the op's report, Fit to Screen leaves no margin around the image so drawing out selections, painting or anything you need to see the edge of the image is not possible. This is only in tabbed documents with the Application Frame on. Floating Document windows never had that margin.

Margin is the blue space around the image canvas in the below screenshots.

It also seems that the windows version leaves more of a margin than the mac version

Sorry about this duplicate post. The first post did not appear, and there was no saved content, so I had to retype everything from memory.

After some time, both posts appeared.

Still not fixed in 23.5.1.

I have seen in other threads that some people consider this a feature, but it's clearly a bug.

For as long as I can remember, there has always been a margin around the image when pressing Ctrl + 0.

There are at least two good reasons for this – it allows you to see the image edges clearly against the background, and it lets you use the crop tool (or other tools) from a corner without having to zoom out.

This works properly in versions 21.2.2 and 22.5.5.

I think the bug was introduced in 23.0, fixed in a later update, and then came back in 23.5.

I've been travelling a lot and also moving houses during the last months, so I haven't used PS all that much recently, and can't say for sure.

@Jeff Arola @Per Berntsen I'm seeing some inconsistentecy between Mac and Windows. I can never get the margin on Mac on standard screen. On windows I see the behavior where 2021 has margin, but 2022 and 2023 do not.

I'm using different monitor sizes between platforms, so that might account for it. I'll dig into with the engineer who looked at it tomorrow when we're both in the office and see if we can sort it out.

Thanks for getting this fixed.

It works in all view modes, but when going from Full screen mode to Standard screen mode, there is no margin at the bottom when pressing Ctrl + 0 in Standard screen mode. This is in version 24.0.1 on Windows 10.

Edit: Also, the status bar disappears, this also happens wihtout pressing Ctrl + 0-
