P: Photoshop 23.0 - cannot open TIF files, generated in other programs

Starting from version 22.5.2 Photoshop stopped opening some tif files. The issue is related to a previously discovered vulnerability, the escalation of which, under certain conditions, may lead to arbitrary code execution - Adobe Security Bulletin.

Important: The problem is not with Photoshop, but with third-party software developers who do not keep track of current TIF specifications

A temporary solution to the problem is to convert files in third-party editors that completely update the structure of TIF files (for example, xnView, ImageMagik, etc.); such files can also be converted using the Camera Raw plug-in (via Bridge).

We all hope that Adobe can solve this problem and find a way to bring third-party files to modern standard. But I recommend that you independently contact the developers of programs whose files Photoshop cannot open. Notify them of the problem, recommend to contact @J453 using this community. Jeffrey can provide technical information to developers to solve this problem.

This is a BIG problem...I opened a StarNet TIF file in PS Elements and then saved it again as a TIFF, which I was able to open in PS2022...

Same here too, I use 32bit stacked tiff file images from Deepskystacker which is a astrophotography program and starnet++ and Pixinxight

for the moment that works

I mean I opened it in Bridge like Jain suggested above, then used Open in Raw, then opened in Photoshop.

I'm here to pile on and say that I have the exact same issue.  SO FRUSTRATING.

There are thousands of files in this series, would like to have a direct fix but thank you this did work, when I clicked on Open in Raw the TIF opened in Photoshop, but when I chose Save As in Photoshop even though it had a .tif extension the default Save As was .jpg. I saved it as a TIF and was able to open it.

@HPLHaverhill I'm using 22.5.2 and couldn't open your TIFF two directly. I was able to open the file from Bridge, to Camera Raw, and then PS. So maybe that will will serve as a workaround for you for the time being? I can't run 23 right now (for different reasons) so I don't know if this method will work with that version. Please let us know if this offers a solution for you. Here is how it came in for me:

I hav literally thousands of files that will no longer open in photoshop that were saved in batch Portrait Pro Studio Max 18. This will be a huge impact on my retouching business.  I can not access my layered work files that were created in Portrait Pro additional work done in previous versions of photoshop and "Save" not save as. So much time lost. Please resolve this issue soon.

Same problem here-immediately after installing version 23 I can't open Tiff files that were saved in SNS-HDR, a photo merging program I use. For that job I resaved all of the merged Tiffs as PSDs and it worked. Still can't open the Tiffs though. I also sis the camera raw change and they open, but in camera raw. I'd rather not have to take extra steps to open these files as time is money.

Once my Lightroom Classic updated that no longer worked.

Seeing the post from pcollinz regarding ON1, I can confirm the same problem exists when opening, editing, and resaving a TIFF file in ON1 Effects Standalone.
