New Here ,
Apr 30, 2025 Apr 30, 2025

Problema principal:

Hi @lugo iduaqsietei7499901! Welcome to the community!

Thank you for reaching out and detailing the steps you've already tried. As a first step, have you tried resetting your preferences? This often helps with miscellaneous issues. Just remember to back up your brushes and workspaces, as this will restore the app to its default state.

The latest version of Photoshop is 26.6. Could you please check if updating to this version helps? If none of these steps work, could you send us a screen recording of the issue? This will help us try to reproduce it on our end.

Thanks a bunch!

Alek

Title:

:exclamation_mark: Photoshop 26.6 / 26.7 Beta — Masking Hides Content After Selection (Even When Inverted)

Issue Summary:

In Photoshop versions 26.6 and 26.7 Beta, when applying a mask based on a selection (especially with the elliptical or rectangular marquee tool), the selected content becomes invisible immediately after the mask is created. This persists even if I invert the mask or try to paint white or black on the mask — the content does not reappear.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open any raster image (not a Smart Object).

  2. Make an elliptical selection using the Elliptical Marquee Tool.

  3. Click the Add Layer Mask button in the Layers panel.

  4. The selected area is completely hidden.

  5. Press Cmd+I to invert the mask → No change.

  6. Paint on the mask with white or black → Still no visible change.

  7. Behavior occurs in both public 26.6 and Beta 26.7.

Troubleshooting Attempts:

  • Reset all Photoshop preferences

  • Disabled GPU acceleration

  • Checked that layer is rasterized and not a Smart Object

  • Verified the problem with different image files

  • Tried both free transform and “Transform Selection” before masking

Expected Behavior:

The selected area should remain visible after applying a mask. Inverting the mask or painting on it should toggle visibility as expected.

Actual Behavior:

The entire content is hidden, regardless of mask polarity or brush editing.

System Information:

  • Mac model: MacBook Pro

  • Processor: [Insert chip — e.g., Apple M1 / Intel i7]

  • RAM: [e.g., 16 GB]

  • macOS version: [e.g., macOS Ventura 13.6]

  • Photoshop versions: 26.6 (public), 26.7 (Beta)

Payment Confirmation:

For reference, here’s proof of active payment for Adobe services (via Banco Nacional CR):

  • Name: Luis Humberto Marín Espinoza

  • Amount Paid: ₡10,970.00

  • Date: 2025-04-29

  • Screenshot available upon request.

Any help or confirmation of this bug would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey, @lugo iduaqsietei7499901. Thanks for sharing the screenshots. This is expected behavior.

When you make a selection and apply a mask, the resulting mask will reveal the pixels within the selection, and the areas outside will be hidden.

In masks, black hides the content of the layer, and white reveals it. Try holding the alt key when you create a mask; it should begin as an inverted mask.

You can also Shift+Click the mask thumbnail in the Layers panel to deactivate the mask.

Let me know if this helps. Thanks!

Sameer K
