Why, still, is there no glyphs palette/panel/menu in Photoshop? It's pretty sad that I have to use Illustrator or CopyPasteCharacter.com to get the glyphs I need for my raster designs.
Well, I was in no way trying to say it was EASIER. I was trying to help those out that wanted to use the glyphs in their fonts that they purchased but couldn't use. Isn't it better than not using it at all????? No need to be rude. Not sure why my comments trying to help is such a bad thing???? Hope you have a great day, mr. pessimistic.
I am sure it works well, as long as you don't try to paste a glyph that is the alternate instead of the default. But that is critical functionality for most of us. See page 7 of the Adobe OpenType Guide (http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/pdf...).
But when you post something that is untrue in multiple places, it is that much more work to correct—or we let people believe something that isn't true.
Again, Font Book only works for getting encoded characters into Photoshop text. It does not get alternates (see p. 7 of the Adobe OpenType User Guide http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/pdf...). All those glyphs that are displayed by clicking on the little triangle in the character cell can't be brought into Photoshop via Font Book.
Thomas, this is where I found out how to access ALL of they glyphs in a font:
http://www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2...
I did what she says to do, and can use and access them in PS. Sorry you think I'm incorrect, and have to be so negative. I'm done wasting my time with you. Hope you have a great day.
You can see all of the glyphs in a font in Font Book, but you can not get the alternate glyphs from Font Book into Photoshop (or just about any Adobe app). When you paste from Font Book (10.10 Yosemite) into Photoshop CC 2014 r2, alternates show up as .notdefs instead. In most fonts that's a rectangle with an X through it. I re-checked when I first saw your suggestion.
The same copy-paste of special alternate glyphs *does* work for many apps on Mac OS. Basically any apps that use Apple's APIs for advanced typography. But Adobe apps use their own module for this, called CoolType.
You can test this easily. In Font Book, go to what is now the "View" menu and select "Repertoire." Choose Hoefler Text. Scroll down to the real small caps about half way through the font. Copy it and paste it into Photoshop (or Illustrator or InDesign). You get a notdef.
Oops, I should have used Palatino Linotype as an example (its small caps can be found about 90% of the way through the font). The problem occurs with OpenType fonts as well as AAT fonts. It's an API mismatch, not just a smart-font-format mismatch.
Why do I still have to open Illustrator and use the Glyphs panel there and copy/paste to Photoshop? Why, just why? They use the same text engine, after all...
Now if we could only get Bullets, Numbering & Tabs! (For device mock-ups). I do LOVE the new Multiple Artboards in Photoshop CC 2015! Check them out if you haven't File > New > Document Type: Artboard (all the new device sizes are in there!) 😄
Mini thumbnails when the cursor moves over tabshorizontally, could be great. Also closing is a painfull, because everything has a different tab width and can't still clicking at the same place like in chrome. It would also be nice if eg. by holding ctrl + click on the cross closed tab without asking for a saving.
Please add a glyphs panel to PhotoShop. I'm using fractions and an architectural fonts on various drawings. These aren't supported by PS so it is really difficult to get them into the drawings.
