P: Audio "can't be read quickly enough" from storage

Community Beginner ,
Apr 02, 2025 Apr 02, 2025

Just started getting this error window today while working on a very simple project that only has a couple After Effects motion graphics clips, and three tracks of audio: VO, music, and light SFX:

Event Details:

Can't access audio

the audio for _____.wav can't be read quickly enough from storage. Please check your storage and try again.

Build:

Windows 11 Pro 26100.3624

12th Gen Intel i7-12700K 3.60 GHz

32 GB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

The local C drive is an NVME SSD, but the file in question is stored on a Synology NAS with IronWolf HDDs. Both the computer and the NAS were built from new parts this year.

Premiere: 25.2, installed this week.

The same error happened on a second computer (same build, also connect to the NAS).

Hi there, this is Adolfo from Adobe. We're aware of the issue and are looking into it. It would be great if anyone is willing to share their project with me, as it could help us investigate further. We'll keep you updated in this thread as soon as we have more information.

In the cloud desktop, find PR 25. Click the 3-dot menu and pick "Other versions."

New 25.2.3 update did not fix the issue, just got rid of the warning box. C'mon Adobe, FIX this!

@jamieclarke @Kevin-Monahan,

It would help for staff to clarify the status. Jamie, you refer to a pinned reply, but nothing is pinned. The status is still "needs more info."

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/p-audio-quot-can-t-be-read-quickly-enough-quot-from...

For those of you experiencing continuing problems, I suggest clearing your cache when you upgrade.

The 25.2.3 update reports fix of "The error message "Can't access audio" might have incorrectly appeared during playback, even when there was no actual audio issue.":

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/kb/fixed-issues.html#:~:text=Fixed%20issues%20in%20the%C2%A025....

But this thread also includes many mentions of audio dropouts and export problems. And users are seeing this as not fixed.

I've been having the same issue with mp4 files not playing audio because of the same error message about not having enough storage... TODAY the latest issue is the audio just stops working. In multiple cases, the Audio Gain output line on the audio gain scale did one of two things: 1) the line appears where the audio is supposed to max in the video (so on the higher end of the scale) but there's no audio playing, even though the audio is set to Enable and the audio is showing on the editing bar; or 2) more frequently, the audio gain line appears at the very bottom of the audio gain scale but there's no audio, even though I just heard it playing and then it just stops. THERE IS NO ERROR MESSAGE BEING GIVEN - it's just happening. I did install a Windows Update yesterday, but I don't know if Adobe got updated along with it.

As others have said, this new update 25.2.3 has NOT fixed the issue. I now get no error message but playing the video results in no audio playing at all - it's just silent where the track is placed. This is so frustrating as a user experience - I feel like I'm beta testing main releases.

I did but I'm not finding the old version in Cloud once I've installed it. Now when I go to "other versions" it shows that 25.0 is installed but I have no way of opening it from the Cloud. And I didn't save my problematic project because (a) the program froze and (b) I had just started so there was nothing really to save, meaning I have no project to open in a previous version. Help!

Make a copy of the project file and downgrade the version from ardesten at the bottom and you can open it with the premire pro version you installed.

I see 25.2.3 is available but cannot find 25.3. Has anyone else found 25.3 and did it fix all the problems? I cannot waste any more time on this!

The "new computer" advice is clearly nonsense. I'm getting there errors on a macbook with a M3 Pro processor.

Huh? This post saying just buy a newer computer is dumb and misinformation. I have a maxxed out M4 Max MacBook Pro, and I have this issue. It's definitley not hardware related.

I wonder if the new computer fixed the problem because it was a completely new installation of Adobe software. Is there any chance we all have some lingering stuff we don't know how to remove?

I've been experiencing the audio dropouts for a while now.

During that time I must have reinstalled everything from scratch at least 3 times.

I own very beefy machines.

So I do not believe it has anything to do with Hardware capabilities, or that a reinstall will fix it.

I believe that as from 25.1 the error message just put a notice on what was happening before.

I believe the 25.2.3 just disabled the message and not the underlying problem.

@anyone at Adobe, my issue with audio dropout is consistent, and can be explained by 1 sec audio glitch without sound, mostly when pressing space bar to play, just once.

It is pretty reproducible, but does not occur every time.

I kind of wish they had left the error message because at least it was traceable.

I switched to a brand new Mac Studio last Friday. I have experienced zero issues.

Again, this issue has nothing to do with the quality of a computer, especially when it's involving wav audio files under 5 MB in size. This is a software bug.

I don't see any pinned post, and I am having the same problem. Is there a post that lists the solution? Premiere Pro says it can't access the audio, meanwhile, sometimes it plays it in the Program, and sometimes it doesn't, so it can access it but chooses not to play it sometimes. Please provide the solution, thanks

Hi @edit_8848
you are still having the issue with version 25.2.3 correct?
