Thanks!

Hi B3anie,

Thanks for the bug report. Are you on Windows? If so, I have heard of this issue. It may have something to do with a faulty .dll file. Some people have reported that replacing this corrupt .dll with another one from another machine has worked for them.

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2024\ImageRenderer.dll

Since it's not an ideal troubleshooting step, reinstalling the OS would be my suggestion.

Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

@B3anie,

This thread was about a short-lived bug in 24.2.0 that was fixed. And then there was discussion of a Beta version bug (that was fixed).

I am experiencing no problems in PR 24.5.0 with using or creating text styles.

What issue are you having?

@Stan_Stan - No warning, PP just crashes, closes, disappears. I've had our IT team look into it and they can't see any crash messages. I've just reinstalled 23.6.7 and it's working a dream again. So frustrating as literally no warning

Thanks; the crash was happening on 24.5.0 or which? I don't recall this being reported by anyone in recent releases.

@Stan Jones  crashes happening in 24.5 I've had to install 23.6.7 just so I can work with graphics in the project. So far, no crashes...

@B3anie,

Thanks for the info. This should be in its own bug report, but perhaps a moderator can split it.

@Kevin-Monahan Who best to take a look at this? Are there logs that B3anie can access for staff? Split to its own bug report?

Hi @Kevin-Monahan thank you so much for your reply and apologies I didn't create a new post on this. I am running Adobe from a Windows system and have passed on your recommendation to our IT team. Thank you so much. I'll report back here to confirm when fixed. Thank you 🙂

I'm experiencing persistent and sporadic crashes with Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 (version 24.5.0.57). The application crashes unpredictably, sometimes immediately upon opening and other times later during use, making it impossible to work. The error details are as follows:

Steps Already Taken:

1. Updated GPU Drivers
- Reinstalled the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia via GeForce

2. Switched Renderer Settings:
- Changed `Renderer` to `Mercury Playback Engine Software Only`.

3. Cleared Media Cache:
- Deleted media cache files via `Edit` > `Preferences` > `Media Cache`.

4. Reset Preferences:
- Launched Premiere Pro while holding down the `Alt` key to reset preferences.

5. Ran System File Checker and Disk Check:
- Ran `sfc /scannow` to check for and repair corrupted system files.
- Ran `chkdsk /f /r` to check and repair disk errors.

6. Reinstalled Adobe Premiere Pro:
- Uninstalled and re-installed PP via Creative Cloud Desktop software

7. Checked Event Viewer for Additional Details:
- Reviewed logs under `Windows Logs` > `Application`.

Despite these efforts, the crashes persist, and the application remains unstable. The crashes occur unpredictably, sometimes immediately upon opening and other times after a few minutes of use. I am seeking further assistance from the Adobe community to resolve this issue urgently.

I am also experiencing this issue on 24.5 (and other versions of 24.~).  Constant crashes, usually only a couple clicks after opening.  Found out ImageRenderer.dll was a source of the problem from Application Event Log and led me here.  None of the troubleshooting mentioned has helped, including swapping the ImageRenderer.dll from another computer's install.  Reinstalling my OS is not feasible at this time.  Seems to be limited to one project (which I have tried to import the contents to new projects but no change).  Rolling back to other versions of 24 haven't helped, haven't attempted to go back to 23, as importing the project will be difficult.  HOWEVER, the project works flawlessly in Premiere Beta.  So I spent the last 4 hours trying to catch up by doing my edits in there.  So far 100% stable there.  Went back to 24.5 to work on a completely different project and not experiencing this issue at all.

See my response, @deanr78548626: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/p-premiere-pro-closes-for-no-reason-while-editing/i...

Did you try to swap out the .dll file? If so, what happened? Have you tried the Beta yet?

Oh my god, now it's happening in my next project.  I worked all day yesterday in this project and near the end of the day it just started crashing.. maybe every 5 minutes, and then today I open it up and immediately it crashes and closes out.  WTF.  I have a massive edit to do and deadlines to meet and I can't make one damned click.

I'll jump to using Premiere beta on this project too now and hope to god it's more stable and lets me do my work, but seriously this needs to be diagnosed and fixed right the f*ck now.  Let me know if I can provide dump files or anything else to help diagnose this, this is a critical failure.

Hi @Kevin-Monahan

We replaced the corrupt .dll and upon restart, I could no longer open Premiere Pro. I just kept getting this message:

B3anie_0-1723114928572.png

Just to advise we have opted not to reinstall my OS since it was only recently done.

Having replaced the .dll with my original I am once again getting crashes in my project, when using graphics in my project. When will there be a fix please? This is proving to be a very frustrating time using Premiere Pro... 😞

@Kevin-Monahan
Really need some actual Adobe eyes on this and not just the Indian tier 1 tech-support guys I've been dealing with.  Yesterday I engaged with Adobe tech support and the first guy remote connected to my PC and uninstalled/reinstalled a bunch of Microsoft C++ Redistributables, then gave full permissions to basically every Adobe folder in the filesystem.  Then asked me to test Premiere while he watched.  I said the crash can sometimes take as much as 5 or more minutes before it happens, he said he'd wait.  After a few minutes he said it appeared to be fixed and logged off, and at that same moment Premiere crashed again with the ImageRenderer.dll at fault.  And then every time I tried to start working again it would almost instantly crash.

I immediately tried to get back with tech support and was connected to another rep, who tried to tell me I needed to update/reinstall my graphics card.  I explained this was not a GPU issue, he wanted to remote in and begin.  I asked what he planned to do, and he said if I wasn't comfortable with him remote connecting he would email instructions on what I should do.  He promptly disconnected and I never received any emailed instructions.

Shortly after that I downgraded to 24.0.3 on a whim and had ZERO issues working for the following 9 hours.  Seems like nothing wrong with my GPU if one version of Premiere works and others don't.  I'd really like to get back to a more recent version at some point for the AI voice enhancement, as I'm getting great results with it, but right now I just need to get this edit built and make up for days of lost work.

Please push this through to whatever next tier or support is available.  I can provide dump files from these errors to diagnose and troubleshoot, just let me know where to send them.  Or just let me know how I can get past tier 1 Adobe tech support, they're just following the usual scripts and I can't lose any more hours to them.

Nonsensical update - I just got the second Adobe tech support rep's email with directions, a full day later.  He wanted me to go to Windows graphics settings and tell Windows to prioritize my GPU for Premiere...
Screenshot 2024-08-08 113041.pngScreenshot 2024-08-08 112936.png
This is after I repeatedly told him I don't have any other GPU or a processor with an APU.  Complete garbage tech support on that tier.  Please for the love of god how do I reach a developer/software engineer???

I would like to add to this thread, I changed two things that have helped with stability, not sure what is the correlating factor here but hopefully this will help add more context to the issue:

1. Downgraded to PP v24.3

2. Editing with proxies for my .MXF footage.

So, I'm not sure if the source of this issue stems from a bug in the new version of PP, or if my .MXF footage was causing instability. @Kevin-Monahan is there a good article about .MXF footage in relation to Premiere Pro?
