P: Specific Presets do Not Save when I exit and return from the application (PREMIERE PRO)

Community Beginner ,
Sep 15, 2024 Sep 15, 2024

Summary of the issue:

When I import specific effects presets in Premiere Pro, they do not save after I exit and return to the application. While some effects within the preset do save, certain specific ones, such as the "shake" effect, are not saved.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Import a custom preset that includes multiple effects, including the "shake" effect.
  2. Exit Premiere Pro.
  3. Open Premiere Pro again and check if the effects have been saved.

Expected result:

All imported effects, including the specific "shake" effect, should be saved and available when I reopen Premiere Pro.

Actual result:

The "shake" effect (and some other specific effects) is not saved, even though other effects within the preset are retained.

Additional information:

  • I am not using any third-party plugins or panels.
  • Please find my system specs and exact Premiere Pro version below: Windows 11, Premiere 24.6.1.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - Just a reminder: if you apply your old preset that contains the outdated Transform effect, it won’t work correctly even if you try to save it again. You’ll need to build a new preset from scratch using the updated Transform effect from the Effects panel.

Just tried this myself and can confirm that the preset with the effects have stayed. Which probably means cinecom used the obsolete transform making them break in the new Adobe premiere. All hail Nam Tram

@ShadowedStar Glad it worked!

Going forward, I hope there's a more built in solution to this on Adobe's side. I still don't think it's the 3rd party's fault if they made their presets years ago before those effects became obsolete. So either Adobe can do something to fix this, or all 3rd party preset makers have to update their presets to use non-obsolete effects.

From what I see Adobe made the conscious decision to get rid of the obsolete transform (a little late probably because of how many users used the old transform in their presets) which just means that old 3rd party presets will need to be updated with the times

Another interesting bit of info on disappeared / obsolete preset.

Remember what I said about Excalibur using an obsolete transform effect? I just used Excalibur to see if I could apply other obsolete presets and effects. The only other obsolete effects I could identify to could  are the old Garbage matte effects. This is a completely different set of garbage mattes than the presets I had previously imported.

So basically, Premiere is fully capable of implementing obsolete presets and effects, but for some reason does not save them in the effects tab.

Since they haven't been listed in the last few updates I believe it's so they can shift users to the non obsolete versions of these effects and keeping the obsolete ones hidden to still work with already made presets with those effects already on your Adobe presets folder (not new ones being imported which would lead to the problem of them not staying in the preset folder)

I'm also having the same problem with premiere pro. Started in version 24, and now also in version 25. New custom preset folders are disappearing on restart. Custom presets disappear on restart. Certain Presets from Cinepunch Transitionpunch 5.0 also disappear.

An odd thing happens where sometimes when I open premiere, My effects tab clicks from expanded to collapsed.  In that brief moment, while it's expanded, 30% of the time, I can see those presets that I've saved and the original presets within the "transitionpunch" folder.

But when the effects preset folder clicks automatically and collapses, those presets are now all missing.

As of yesterday I did the following to unsuccessfully resolve:

-Upgraded from version 24 to 25 on windows 10.

-did a clean install of windows 10 and upgraded to windows 11.

-did a fresh install of premiere 25 on windows 11.

-saved the presets before closing the project.

-imported the presets (which then created duplicates

-moved the presets to a custom folder.

None of this works.

I'd say this all started happening around 2-3 months ago. (Around September 2024).

I am running windows 10 and now 11.

@Nam Tran I'm very sorry to report that this workaround didn't solve the problem. Thank you for being responsive 🙏

It seems to be a glitch within premiere. I can see all my presets when I open premiere for a few seconds. But then the effects menu collapses and then it somehow resorts back minus all of the saved changes. It's almost as if my presets are being saved and loaded from elsewhere. I just don't get how this keeps happening.

@defaultqsbbseec9r3g I believe you have a slightly different issue than the rest of us in this post, but I believe your issue just happens to have some overlap with the obsolete effects thing.  I have seen the exact same thing with the disapparing folder and presets, but it only ever happened once on my end.

Is it possible for you to send me one of those presets that are disappearing? I'd like to try something.

Hi All,

The Adobe team reached out to me to let me know about this issue. They where very kind to help me easily fix the problem.

Everyone that ever downloaded the preset-pack can re-download it from their order to get the latest working version.

Here's a link to the original preset: https://www.cinecom.net/video-packs/ultimate-earthquake/

Stay Creative,
Jordy

HI @musaby - I believe Essential Motion has updated their presets to be compatible with version 25.  Please check with the developer.

Screenshot 2024-11-25 at 4.41.33 PM.pngThese 2 effect presets refuse to stay in Premiere after restart. They are from the Essential Motion 2 Preset pack. If I dupliacte them or put them into a custom preset folder, same issue.

My specs:
Mac M1 Max 64GB RAM

Mac OS 14.2.1
Premiere 25.0.0 Build 61

This has been broken since 24.6.1

I can import presets and they get saved. However, it will not let me change any presets names. It keeps reverting back to the origional name after saving and closing down premiere pro. I am using 25.2 version of premiere pro.

Some of my personal presets dissapeared when I restarded premiere pro.. But I think i found the solution.. After version update 24.5 this problem seems to appear.. Version 24.5 and before are working fine with holding the presets.

This problem seems to appear by alot of people when I look at the forums.. I use all 3rd party plugins from other creators and I cant update those presets.. So hopefully they come with a solution by future updates from Premiere Pro, so that all the personal presets stay after reopening Premiere Pro. Because I can't update my Premiere Pro now to the latest update and missing out on some amazing features.

After update version 24.5 also Bevel Edges, Convolution Kernel, Blurs and Solarizes where removed from the effects panel. The presets that dissapeared in the versions after 24.5 did not include obsolute effects, but maybey there is a correlation between that.

Hopefully you guys can come up with a solution for this, so I can use my 3rd party presets and can update to the latest version, because I'm missing out on some amazing features with AI right now.

Hi @tomh59596202 - As part of ongoing work to modernize Premiere Pro, the Obsolete Effects folder and plug-ins, Obsolete Transitions folder and plug-ins, and presets built from the obsolete effects are now removed.  Please see this article for more information. Obsolete Effects, Transitions and Presets

I will move your post to the primary thread.

I've already seen the the posts about this issue for years now and I know the work arounds. I create a custom "custom effects" folder, and place any new effects I make in there.

I used the other workaround where I export all my effects as a backup PRPSET file to import when my effects disappear on a new session. I started doing this becuase my own custom effects folder was missing effects after updating Premiere over the years.

I can't just drag the old Preset file into the current year PrPro folder either because upon opening any project, all my effects will be onscreen for a moment but then the effects panel will refresh and the same custom effects will diappear again. That's why I resort to importing everytime I start/load a project.

But it gets tiring doing this for some years now. And everytime I import the PRPSET file I have to delete the custom effects currently in Premiere first or else duplicates of those effects will be imported too and clutter the Effects panel.

Is there a fix to this bug to import my custom effects and keep them all there permanently? No more workarounds just an actual permanent fix?

I'm on Windows 10 latest version.

I'm on the most current version of Premiere Pro as of May 29, 2025.

Hello @jamieclarke here ares the effects I was talking about that disappear. Screenshots are below. And to clarify these are my custom made presets/effects. They are normally saved under the Presets bin folder in the Effects panel.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - The Paint Bucket effect is part of the Obsolete effects set. Additionally, the Transform effect has been updated if you’d like to continue using it in your presets, please recreate the preset using the latest version of the Transform effect.

Hello @jamieclarke after importing my effects again I placed one of my Transform effects onto a clip, tweaked it a bit, and exported the preset with a test name. But when I closed and re-opened Premiere, the test preset I just made disappeared too.
