P: Specific Presets do Not Save when I exit and return from the application (PREMIERE PRO)

Community Beginner ,
Sep 15, 2024 Sep 15, 2024

Summary of the issue:

When I import specific effects presets in Premiere Pro, they do not save after I exit and return to the application. While some effects within the preset do save, certain specific ones, such as the "shake" effect, are not saved.

Steps to reproduce the bug:

  1. Import a custom preset that includes multiple effects, including the "shake" effect.
  2. Exit Premiere Pro.
  3. Open Premiere Pro again and check if the effects have been saved.

Expected result:

All imported effects, including the specific "shake" effect, should be saved and available when I reopen Premiere Pro.

Actual result:

The "shake" effect (and some other specific effects) is not saved, even though other effects within the preset are retained.

Additional information:

  • I am not using any third-party plugins or panels.
  • Please find my system specs and exact Premiere Pro version below: Windows 11, Premiere 24.6.1.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev - Just a reminder: if you apply your old preset that contains the outdated Transform effect, it won’t work correctly even if you try to save it again. You’ll need to build a new preset from scratch using the updated Transform effect from the Effects panel.

Ok I did it @jamieclarke and now the presets stay when I restart Premiere. But now I have two problems.

Since I had so many custom Transform effect presets, when I made new ones using the new Transform effect, I gave them different names to keep track. I finished up and restarted PrPro and renamed my new effects to the old original ones I replaced. But when starting PrPro again, the new effects names reset back to the ones I gave back when I was just keeping track. I can't get the names to permanently change.

Second problem is the Paint Bucket effect. I used to use it as a work around to make an outline because PP doesn't have a stroke/outline effect. But according to the link you gave, the replacement Adobe gives to Paint Bucket effect is an effect called Lumetri. I assume they mean Lumetri Color because there's no effect with the name "Lumetri" by itself. Problem is there's no option to apply an outline to a clip. What do I do?

There are stroke and background options for graphics now. So that's what's normally used.

You can create shapes and give them an outline, stroke, shadow, whatever. The controls for all those are in the Graphics workspace, and after you create a shape, and select it, the Properties panel has all the controls.

It's a rather different model than before but it does work.

Yes that works when working with text and shapes. But I don't get those options when working with video clips. Even if I make a square shape around a clip I need to also animate the shape layer when moving the video clip around the screen, scaling the clip etc. I want something like the layer effects you can do in Photoshop and After Effects. That's why I used Paint Bucket to simulate stroke and outer glow. But since they removed it, will Adobe add something like this as an effect?

Do you know of any 3rd party apps/effect to download that does these things?

Perhaps nesting the clip and the graphic, and animating the nest?

That would work if I'm working with a few clips. But when doing that multiple times for many clips and projects I work on that gets tedious and time consuming in both editing, and with organizing clips/nests in my project window. If Adobe does not want to add effects they've had in AE and Photoshop for years, they should allow us to continue having access to their obsolete effects instead of deleting them everytime I start up Premiere.

The issue from their side has been oft stated, but again, the code for all of those was ancient, the effects were used by a tiny percentage of the user base, and there wasn't enough reason for them to spend the dev efforts to essentially recreate them from scratch.

And yes, I "lost" a couple effects I've used in certain situations too.

For a specific example, at NAB this year, I asked a group of Premiere users talking in the tradeshow in the Adobe booth ... how many knew of the Paint bucket effect? Or Fast Color? Being as both have come up "here" several times.

On those two examples, I got blank stares from a group of five or six rather experienced editors, all of whom have been to NAB for years, some pre-dating my first NAB of 2014. And yet, those were not effects they had ever used.

I'm missing a couple of their add-grain/noise effects, that I preferred to the simple thing we have now. But then, I also realize very few editors add "noise" or "grain" to their sequences. So I can see the logic of the choice from Adobe's side.

And no, they can't just leave ancient code in place forever.

Even if I'm the only person using the effect I'm still a paying customer like everyone else. And as I said, I used that effect as a workaround for years because Adobe still does not add the actual effects you can find built in their other programs natively. And I know I'm not the only person who requested they add them to Premiere Pro.

If they refuse to add them to Premiere for whatever reason, then they should give us access to their old effects we used as workarounds until they do. Even if that means they have to update their old code. If this was a free program I'd be ok with it but they charge for this service and I've stayed with them despite them raising prices over the years.

First, remember I'm a user and understand the feelings.

That said, I don't think you really at some level understand business decisions. At least as I've had to, as an independent business person over 40 years now.

To do what you wanted, they would have to completely rebuild from scratch, period. Taking some team members away from other projects for some period of time.

To remake something not used by nearly any significant portion of users. Like you and me. When they have a massive list of things that need work, used by millions of people.

I don't say I like the decisions , but I do understand them.

I've had changes in the color correction effects I've argued for, for a decade now. The devs at NAB are always understanding, but keep reminding me that I and maybe  ... maybe ... 100 other users at most ..

would appreciate the changed tools. So it ain't gonna happen.

Again , I don't like the decision, but I understand it.

Some of my personal presets dissapeared when I restarded premiere pro.. But i think I found the solution.. After version update 24.5 this problem seems to appear.. Version 24.5 and before are working fine with holding the presets.

This problem seems to appear by alot of people when I look at the forums.. I use all 3rd party plugins from other creators and I cant update those presets.. So hopefully they come with a solution by future updates from Premiere Pro, so that all the personal presets stay after reopening Premiere Pro.

After update version 24.5 also Bevel Edges, Convolution Kernel, Blurs and Solarizes where removed from the effects panel, maybey there is a relation between that..

The presets that dissapeared in the versions after 24.5 were not obsolute effects, but 3rd party presets from other creators. Hopefully you guys can come up with a solution that all 3rd party presets stay after updating and reopening Premiere Pro. Because I can't update my Premiere Pro now to the latest version and miss out on al the amazing new tools.

Kind Regard, Tom Houben
