P: Unable to freely move clips and audio around on my timeline. Glitch, bug or setting?

Community Beginner ,
Feb 03, 2025 Feb 03, 2025

If anyone is able to wave a magic wand and help me fix this issue then I would be so very grateful!

I am using Premier pro 25.1 on a windows PC, I opened up my project the other day to start work and I was unable to freely click on a clip and drag the clip about on the timeline with the same thing happening with audio. When I do click on a clip to move or drag it I am presented with the picture I have attached, in my program window.

I have tried everything on nearly every forum page I can find, reset all settings from splash, cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled softwear, new project, everything I can think of but I can't find anything anyway with someone with this same fault.

Thank you if anyone can save me!

Try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/...

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

サブモニターでのクリップの移動、挿入、テキストの順番の入れ替え等でマウス操作全般でエラーマークが表示されます。

クリップの長さは変更できます。

メインモニターでは問題なく動作します。

Hola!

Gracias!

Thank you. To be honest, it didn’t work. I installed the latest Nvidia Studio Driver, reset my preferences, uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere, and even started a new project, but it’s still not working. It’s so frustrating.

Are none of the Timeline tools working or just the Selections Tools move function?

I probably did, since I'm always updating Windows, but I'm using the English version of Premiere. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, I've made sure the source patching is activated, but I can't figure out what's going on.

Hey there. I just fired up Premiere Pro, added some assets, but now I'm not allowed to do anything. I have V1 primed on the timeline and I'm running out of ideas. I updated all drivers. I can't even click and drag the one clip further down on the timeline.

Hi @Lloyd_Allen3612,

Thanks for the post. Welcome to the forum. I'm Kevin from Adobe Support, a moderator here. We've seen a number of cases like yours this morning. In order to verify, can you include more details? See; How do I write a bug report?

Have you updated Windows recently? If so, when? Do you have dual monitors? Is everything working if you unplug the secondary monitor? Is this an English installation of Premiere Pro and/or Windows? Any details would be very helpful.

I hope we can help you shortly. Sorry for the issue.

Cheers,
Kevin

I bought a new computer with Windows 11 and installed Premiere Pro 2025. It only works for the first three minutes and then the Selection Tool freezes and won't work in the timeline. I can select clips but I can't move any video or Audio part in the Timeline.

I tried old versions of Premiere Pro, installed the new version again, everything is the same, It works only  first three minutes.

Photoshop 2025 is working perfectly.
What I have to do in this case?

Hi @Lloyd_Allen3612,

Sorry, this is recent issue. Can you try a workaround tried on this thread? You can also try disconnecting a secondary monitor. I hope we can help you find a workaround until the team can find a fix for you. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,

Kevin

Wow, thank you, you saved my life. This is so stupid. Why can't I use both of my monitors on my laptop and edit in the same time? Is there any permanent fix to it?
