Change to color missing from premiere pro

I do not want to use color replace, that effect sucks! I want to figure out how to get change to colour back. I use it all the time and it works really well.

Hi Kriss,

Change to Color is still available in the Obsolete folder in Premiere Pro 24.5.

It seems that this and other Obsolete effects will no longer be available in the Beta version. You can read more about it here: Obsolete Effects Removal in Beta.

Going forward, I recommend using Hue/Saturation Curves or HSL Secondary in the Lumetri Color Effect. Both should provide similar functionality, and have the advantage of being accelerated and working in 32-bit color.

Lumetri's HSL section, the Color Replace effect, and the ProcAmp effect, can all do some or most of the things done with Change to Color.

Sorry but I do not find a Color Replace Effect.  HSL works only on the whole clip , not on a specific color. ProcAmp same problem.

There are two ways to get selected areas of a clip to change with Lumetri.

The first is of course to apply a mask to the Lumetri effect, so it only affects a specific area of a clip. This mask can of course be tracked to move with a moving item in the clip.

The second is to use the HSL effect, either by itself, or in combinations using the Track Matte effect which I'll get to below.

Remember, the entire point of any HSL effect, in all video software, is to isolate some combination of hue, saturation, or brightness. It has two sets of controls:

• The first set of controls is used in setting the key (mask) in the upper section of the HSL tab, to control the areas that will be affected by the change in the lower, modifyting control section; this is by using the eyedropper icons and sliders, using one, two, or three of the slider bars.
• After you have successfully selected your key as above, then using the controls in the lower part of the HSL tab to apply the changes to the selected image pixels of the key in the fist part, by using the brightness, hue, contrast, saturation, or sharpness controls at the bottom of the HSL tab.

So your statement that HSL works only on the whole clip is simply mistaken.

That's the function of the HSL tab. To select only a part of the image to change.

Basic ediing and color work.

I've stacked at times three Lumetri on a clip, with HSL being the reason for two of them. AND used a track-matte "stack" of duplicating the clip twice above itself ... the top one gets an HSL key, with the key left on. The middle clip gets a Track Matte effect, set to the luminance of the clip above, and then a Lumetri effect ... and all the Lumetri controls of that effect are then limited to the area selected and passed through by the key of the clip in the track above.

And doing this, the hard data for the key is always the original clip data, and the result is applied to the original clip, so it doesn't change no matter what else you do to the clip.

I've completely rebuilt images.  For example, turning a pink scarf near to cyan, changing the sky color, brightness, and contrast, changing some of the foliage behind the subjects to a different and darker 'green', and modified their expensive horse coat color to look "as wanted".

That took I think four track-matte sets on the clip. But there were vast parts of that clip with completely different color than before, only using Lumetri.

replace color didnt do anything with PNG. 
Lumetri HSL tool didnt do anything with PNG. (while working with resolve, the HSL is bad tool in general)
Proc amp  tool didnt do anything with PNG. 
whats the sollution for color change on PNG?

The file format doesn't have anything to do with the result ... all work on png everything I've heard of. So something is off in your setup. Did you have global FX mute accidentally on or something?

It infuriates me. I used it to change a particular flat RGB from one colour to another. Now you can't. To do it in Lumetri you have to 'eyeball' the colour value to get it as close as possible. No way of doing it pasting your alternative hex or rgb. grrrr.

Yea it's annoying they've dropped some of those. Although having something like seven years notice they were going to do so, I moved away from using any Obsolete Effects many years ago. The ones I mostly miss are a couple of the grain effects, as you had control over size/bw or rgb.

There's still a Replace Color effect in Premiere. Different than the old Change To Color, but usable for many similar needs.

In the Lumetri HSL, selecting a color to change is pretty easy. But you're right, there isn't a way to drop in a hex of the color you want to get to. Which would be useful. Make an Idea request about that, maybe ... I'd sure upvote it.
