custom .KYS files not saving / can't be found

Explorer ,
Jul 21, 2025 Jul 21, 2025

Latest Version of Premiere 25
OS: Windows

I am trying to import custom .kys settings from my desktop computer (windows 10) to my laptop (windows 11).

The problems I am facing:

1) I cannot find the keyboard settings folder under my %UserProfile%\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\25 - that folder does not exist on my laptop.

2) When I create a new custom .kys, it is not saving anywhere. I have searched for that file, but it does not appear anywhere.

Why would Premiere be behaving so differently? I have reset preferences, reset computer. I have not fully reinstalled premiere, but maybe I should? It's just strange that those folders were never created under my userprofile on this computer, when they exist on the other.

Thank you in advance.

I figured it out. It's Microsoft's Onedrive, saving the files surreptitiously on folders that cannot be searched.
This thread gave me the hint.

This is solved. Thanks!

Hi. @mw998 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How to Report a Problem.

Are you saying that you don't have the folder path

Users > <username> > Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > 25.0 > <Profile-username> > Win

I don't have the folder either because I moved Documents from the C drive to the D drive.

If you did not move the folder, re-install would be preferable.

@jamieclarke , that is correct. That folder does not appear anywhere on my computer.
@Ann Bens , I will try this later.

Thank you both for such quick responses- means a lot.

## Issue
Cannot locate where .kys shortcut files are being saved. Standard Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro folder structure does not exist on system.

## Steps to reproduce
1. Open Premiere Pro 2025
2. Navigate to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts (Ctrl+Alt+K)
3. Create and save custom keyboard shortcut layout
4. Close Premiere Pro
5. Navigate to expected location: `C:\Users\maxw\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\25.0\Profile-maxw\Win`
6. Search entire Documents folder for Adobe/Premiere Pro folders
7. Search system-wide for *.kys files
8. Found a folder system that exists in Programs, but saved shortcuts are not stored there–only the defaults.

## Expected result
- Should find Premiere Pro profile folder with .kys keyboard shortcut files in standard Documents/Adobe location
- Should be able to locate and manage custom keyboard shortcut files

## Actual result
- No Adobe/Premiere Pro folder structure exists in Documents folder
- Cannot locate where custom keyboard shortcut files are being saved
- Premiere Pro IS saving settings (can recall saved custom layouts) but storage location is unknown
- Standard troubleshooting paths do not exist:
  - `C:\Users\maxw\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\` - does not exist
  - `C:\Users\maxw\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\` - checked, no results
- Registry search for Adobe Premiere Pro paths shows only "default" entries

## Screen recording
[Not required here]
## Adobe Premiere Pro version
Premiere Pro 2025 - 25.3
## Operating system
Windows 11 Pro

## GPU driver version (Windows only)
[Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics

## Video format
N/A - issue is with keyboard shortcuts, not video playback/export

## Comparative information
- Affects ability to troubleshoot and manage keyboard shortcuts
- Settings ARE being saved somewhere (can access previously saved custom layouts)
- Issue is specifically with locating file storage location for .kys files
- Started when trying to troubleshoot keyboard shortcuts not reading/syncing properly
- Unknown when problem began as this is first time trying to locate these files

## Additional Notes
- User reports keyboard shortcuts initially not working (original issue)
- Attempting to locate .kys files to troubleshoot sync issues
- "Save As" dialog in Keyboard Shortcuts preferences doesn't reveal location
- Process Monitor may be needed to trace file write operations

## Additional Attempted Fixes
- Uninstall and reinstall premiere (using creative cloud application). This did not create new folders.

@mw998,

If you go back to shortcuts, is your custom saved profile there? Do any custom keystrokes work?

Stan

@Stan Jones , yes the custom keyboard saves and those keys are working.

What is interesting is that when I uninstalled Premiere, I opted for the preferences to be removed; subsequently, when I downloaded and reinstalled Premiere, my previous saved custom appeared. I cannot find this file on my computer anywhere. Could it be Premiere is saving the .kys files somewhere in the cloud and not on my local?

The goal is to be able to upload a custom .kys I have from my other working station into my premiere here, so that I am not constantly having to bring one or the other back up to speed whenever I am working (I use extensive keyboard shortcuts to edit).

Thank you all for your continued efforts here. I am surprised not to have found tickets on this issue before...

Best,

Max
