My lumetri color panel is not working or even showing up in Premiere Pro

New Here ,
Jan 14, 2022 Jan 14, 2022

I was working on my short film when I realized I couldnt change the color anymore. I use a Loupedeck + while editing and I use the knobs to change the color on selected clips without having to open the color tab but recently it has stopped working. When I click on the actual Color tab the lumetri scaling doesnt pop up and I cant edit the color straight from the color tab anymore. Its been like this for a few days and I checked a lot of the forum to see if there was anything to help with this issue but nothing has worked. Ive reset to saved layout and it still doesnt work. Ive created a new project file and imported the old but the Lumetri panel is still not there. I use Premiere Pro 2019 and (hopefully) attached a screenshot of my project if that helps any.

Thanks.

Honestly forgot I posted this. I fixed the problem a month later. All I had to do was update Premiere to the 2022 version and boom the Lumetri color panel was back and everything worked perfectly again. I was just to scared to update back then because I didn't want it to mess up the short film I had already been working months on. You never know with Premiere.

Hi JulianM31,

Sorry to hear about this. Have you tried resetting app preferences & checked if the panels are working properly?

Thnaks,

Sumeet

I have had to push our project back several times tuation. Now when I try to export clips it is changing the colors of my clips also only color grading half of a clip. Luts are being renamed in my project with no assistance from me, audio being shift to other part of my project, or clips flat-out missing. I have called Adobe on numerous ocassions only to have even worser issues after customer support supposedly rectified the si. How can a software have this many problems? Customer  Support blames it on pluggins not being updated, but I don't have pluggins. Drivers not being updated when they are. Then it's the Luts are corrupted but the cube were made in Premiere. Then it's because I don't have enough memory but I do! It's everything's fault except Adobe's Premiere Pro! It's like Adobe don't care about their customers anymore!

Where are you putting those LUTs?

Because what that sounds like, is you may be adding LUTs to the Program[Package} folder/Adobe/Premiere Pro/Lumetri/LUTs folder area. Which is wrong, and will cause all sorts of Hades.

LUTs in those folders are accessed not by name, but by relative position under computer alphanumeric sorting order. As in, fifth LUT down.

Users need to park their LUTs in either of two specified locations, both outside the program folder. Then the app will use them correctly.

The types of issues you are having means I'd have a lot of other questions to get into your workflow and steps performed. As that is not normal behavior of the app itself.

My investors don't understand the technical difficulties that I'm have. Having to push the film date out again due to Premiere, they are not happy and I'm hearing mumbling of suing me! All they want is the film their money paid for! I'm at a loss because every time I open the project it's a new issue. Everything is updated...the software, drivers, and pluggins. I don't know what else to do at this point!!!

yes, your source properties and sequence settings.     Tell us where your source clips come from, what camera, etc. and select representative clips in the bin or timeline and control click and choose "properties."   And make the timeline active and go to the sequence menu and choose sequence settings.  Do you have the latest studio driver for your graphics card.  Do not use the games driver...  Lots of things could be causing these problems but we need this info if we're going to be of any help.

I had some serious issues with some material shot on a sony camera on a very complex documentary project about a year ago because sony had screwed around with the color space which threw Premiere into a tizzy.  Select a clip in the bin, control click and choose modify: interpret footage.  At the bottom of the dialog, see if "use color space from file" is set to REC 709.  If not, choose "color space overide" and set it to REC 709.  That solved all sorts of nightmare issues.  If it works, you can select multiple clips in the project/bin and batch modify them.    Good luck.

I'm on the phone with Adobe now because not only is the color acting a fool, but clips are disappearing and audio from other clips are under other video clips! I've had minor problems with Premiere in the past but nothing on this level. I'm going to try you guys way if Adobe can't rectify this.

Camera operator set that to full range. An option in some Sony cams that never should be used. This is YUV (Y-Cb/Cr) media, which to standards is always legal. Doesn't change the data, just how it's encoded.

And really screws up an app playing by The Rules.

With the clip selected in the bin, go to the Effects panel. There are some utility Lumetri things near the top, with legal to full or full to legal conversions in the folder.

Grab and drop the Full to Legal preset onto the selected clip(s) in the Project panel.

That may well solve some issues.

did you do as I suggested or as Neil suggested?   Not easy to figure out what's going on unless we approach this in a systematic fashion.

First, as noted earlier in the thread, your LUTs ... if put in the Premiere Pro/Lumetri/LUTs/Technical folder, are in the wrong place, and will never work correctly.

User added LUTs must not be added to the actual Program folders with LUTs of Premiere itself. Because those folders are not accessed by LUT name, but by relative location after computer alphanumeric sorting. In other words, "fifth LUT down" not "Alpha Blue Screen.cube".

User LUTs need to go to one of the two places the programs will look for USER LUTs ... and personally, I prefer the Program [package] Files/Adobe/Common/LUTs tree. Create a Technical folder, the Basic tab will add them to it's list on launch. Create the Creative folder, again ... Creative tab will see and add them to the list on launch.

Next, those clips that are YUV and set to "full range", as you show above, will be problematic ... period. Those must be set to 'limited' with the Full to Legal Lumetri preset, best applied in the Project panel, dropped onto selected clips in a group. And now, as that is a "source" effect, is applied before any timeline work you do, so the clips are correctly handled through the process.

If either of the above is applicable, and you don't fix them, you won't have reliable color. Period.

Next ... are you on a Mac? As if so, understand Macs use an odd display gamma for Rec.709 video media. All broadcast/streaming/pro work is done to the full Rec.709 standard, which calls for a display gamma of 2.4. Premiere Pro abides (at this time) to the full broadcast standard.

Macs use a gamma of 1.96, which lightens the shadows notably and seems to have less saturation. But the same file, displayed on a properly setup Rec.709 system, will look fine ... full contrast, normal saturation.

And yea, that's a mess, and you can't really "fix" it. There's no way to make an image that looks the same at two distinctly different gammas.

The 24.x series, which will drop probably first day of MAX this October 10, will include the option for the user to set the display gamma within Premiere to broadcast standard 2.4, "web" use of 2.2, or Apple 1.96. You can see this in the current public beta, which is of the 24.x series.
