I am delivering a series for American Public Television and they require both 608 and 708 closed captions.
We imported an .SCC file and it defaults to 608. The embedding works fine on output but I also ned 708 captions. Was is the best way to do this?
Can I cut and paste the captions from the 608 track and create the 708 stream? Not that up on the process here so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Of course I need to know how to do this yesterday
First just try importing again and converting to 708.

That worked. I just copied the .scc file and then converted it and put it on another track. All good.
Thank you Stan Jones!

I know this is old, but I'm trying to do the same thing. What do you mean by "converting"? I need both 608 and 708 and I'm using .scc as well. Thanks for help!

RTTN,
You can convert a caption stream from one form to another in PR. For example, if you import an scc (or srt) file and it is Closed Caption 608, you can right click that file in the Project Panel and Modify -> Captions, and change its type.
There can be problems in duplicating the stream inside PR, so I recommended reimporting the same file, and then converting. So you then have the same info in both 608 and 708 form.
It may have been after this thread, but there is also now an Import Settings button in the Caption Panel. Select this and tell PR what form you want the imported stream to be. No conversion necessary.

Hello! I need to accomplish the same thing for PBS- embed 608 and 708. I have followed the directions here in this thread to reimport and modify the settings. So, above my video file, there are two separate layers- one for 608 and one for 708. However, after I export to MXF with embedded captions, only the top caption layer is embedding. Could anyone please advise? Thanks!

Watson, how are you checking to see if both streams embed?
I get both, but I am testing by looking at the file with MediaInfo and by reimporting to PR.
Curious: Which one embeds? Is it always the top layer, or one type or the other?

When you try to export 708 there is no "embed" pulldown in the captions section of export page. I can only embed 608. This is a real problem. There is no way to embed 708 into a QT on Premier Pro. If their is please let me know. I have run tests with Comcast and they are verifying that indeed only the 608 gets enbedded not the 708.

See this post. PR never did embed 708 in QT:
