Performance issues with captions Premiere Pro 23.2

I'm having serious performance issues with captioning on the latest (March 2023) version of Premiere Pro (23.2). I have tried it on a Windows Laptop ith a Xeon processor and an iMac with an Intel (i9) processor - both machines have 32GB RAM and SSDs

It seems to happen at random that input seems to buffer and slow down and typing response will grind almost to a halt and I can sit and watch as the entire sentence I've just typed appears letter by letter, each one 3 or 4 seconds apart. Playback aso seems to be affected as it is choppy and the playhead itself also doesn't respond smoothly.

This doesn't seem to be a new issue, as I've seen others in the community post about it.
