I'm currently using the latest version of Premiere Pro as of now. Been having an issue for a few months already in which whenever I alt tab, it usually ends up freezing my pc, making my monitor go black for a few seconds, and then either crashing my Premiere or making the program monitor go black when I tab back in making me need to restart my Premiere.
My pc specs are
graphics card- 2080ti
cpu- Ryzen 9 3950x
ram- 64 gb of 3600 mhz ram
and I store all of my footage/assets/projects in a SSD
not sure why my premiere is acting up like this but hopefully adobe ends up fixing this sometime.
Hello, I come from the future, I found the definitive solution for this problem. Since version 14.4 in 2020 I have had this problem with all versions of Premiere onwards, I tried everything up to reinstall Windows and always the same thing happened... until I tried this: Disable Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Windows 10.
Now I can edit without Premiere freezing my whole system.

Hi NotThatNormal,
Welcome to the Community and sorry for your issue.
Such issues are usually caused by an outdated or corrupt GPU driver. Try reinstalling the latest versions of it and see if it brings any change.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Nishu

Make sure to use the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA (NOT the Game Driver).

I have the same issue.
Ryzen 9 5950x

Win10. Seems to get worse when I change worskspaces. I have 3x monitors, and one of the saved workspaces crashes every time it's opened. May have something to do with the workspaces. Will investigate and reply if I can get a stable Premiere.
It's almost unusable at this point. Crashes every 30 seconds.

Same issue here. 5950x, 2x 3090, Windows 11. Just started happening today.
Adobe... any suggestions? I've tried deleting my preference folders, clearing cache, reinstalling drivers etc. etc.

Hey there, thanks so much for the response. I just took a look at the thread you linked to. Just be clear - when you said you installed new windows, do you mean you reinstalled Windows from scratch? Or just did an installation repair or something? Thanks again

I am also having the exact same issue, ive reinstalled drivers countless times and im still having this damn issue. Has anyone found a fix yet?

This could be a corrupted or simply not-properly-functioning driver, an issue with the OS installation/files, or ... a problem with the GPU itself.
I've known of several Resolve users with similar issues that swapped out GPUs with another similar one, and the issue stopped. So they sent their GPU back.
Then of course, the one guy who'd somehow decided to OC his RAM and perhaps even the GPU vRAM ... and when he returned that to 'normal' speed, all was fine.
The number of things that might be at issue here can be frustrating.

I have the same problem. Reinstalled Windows. Nothing is overclocked. Drivers always up2date. Literally every single other program works perfectly fine. Tried different After Effects Version. Tried countless of different Windows Settings and whatever. When i look at google how many people seem to have this problem there must be something Adobe can do about it.

Across the (literally) millions of daily users, there are some like you that are having issues with Alt-Tabbing to other apps. I haven't seen any consistency to lead one to guesstimate how/why this happens to that select few and not the others.
Which is the heart of the trouble here for helping you, sadly.
So just out of curiosity ... have you made any changes to your keyboard shortcuts in Windows?
Do you have a sound card installed, or a "gaming asisstant" application? (Many laptops come with such horrid apps ... )

No, even checked if it happens on a complete clean Windows without any other programs than After Effects. However, i now went all the way back to Version 18.4.6. and so far everything works without crashes. So it seems to be related to the 2022 Version of After Effects. But to be honest i don't see using an old outdated version as a solution here.

Motherboard: MS-7B84
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
GPU: Nvidia 1660 Super

Been working with the 2021 Version and not a single problem so far so the problem seems to be After Effects 2022
