If you make a text edit and then select File > Save, it will not change the ppi of the images. If you choose to Optimize the PDF, you can reduce the ppi, depending on your settings.

File > Create > PDF Portfolio. But it is only in Acrobat Pro, you cannot create a Portfolio in Standard. This screenshot is from page 275 of the Help manual. Does this answer your question?

I realize that you did not ask an actual question, just posted a rant about passwords, but I am going to attempt to answer it anyway. I do not work for Adobe, and passwords are one of the things that drive me nuts (which is why I am a fan of 1Password). I just finished my annual security training for the community college where I teach, and was reminded once again how criminals have gotten more sophisticated at cracking passwords. It's something we live with now, and it's important to have secure passwords. I will ask you the same question I ask myself when I have password trouble on various sites: Would you rather be p****d at Adobe (or other companies) when you have to set up a complex password and it takes multiple tries? Or would you rather be p****d at Adobe (or other companies) when your account gets hacked due to a weak password? In an ideal world, neither would happen. Here is one website that talks about secure passwords. Remember that Adobe is one of the companies that has had a breach. Select the Path mode before you draw, then draw a Path instead of a Shape. In the Brushes panel, select your brush and whatever options, such as size. In the Swatches or Color or Tools panel, select your foreground color In the Paths panel, Stroke the path > Select Brush and it will use your current Brush settings and foreground color. You can use the panel menu or the button at the bottom of the panel.

A second choice is make your layer a Smart Object. One way is Filter > Convert for Smart Filters > OK. Then put a Filter on the Layer, in this case Noise. Note that in the first image below, the layer is selected. In the second image, the mask that was created automatically is selected. It's important that you select the mask. Notice that the mask is white, and that the Filter, in this case Noise, is showing across the entire layer. • Select the mask * Select the Brush tool > choose a size • Select a foreground color. Choose Black or White, but not the color you have. In other words, select Black. • Paint the image to paint out the noise. This is non-destructive editing, as you can paint with white or black (gray will partially reveal), and the filter can be deleted. You can double-click the word "Noise" in the Layers panel to change the amount or type of noise. You can also get fancy and apply a B-W gradient on the mask.

Unfortunately, you can only have one version of Acrobat on your system, so it is not possible for me to test this with your version—only with mine, which is Acrobat Pro DC (Mac). Creating a Comments-only Summary created one page of comments per one page of PDF. I exported to Word 365 (Mac) and it created four pages with Section Breaks, which were easy to remove. Tags are traditionally thought of for Accessibility, so that's where they are found. In Acrobat Pro DC, you select Accessibility, then Autotag. It should be similar if it's available in Acrobat XI Standard. I know this was in XI Pro. An untagged document will look like this in Reading Order A tagged document will have tags. I am not an Accessibility expert, but there is a lot more to making it accessible. You, however, are not trying to make it accessible for people who are blind. You are just trying to export the comments to Word! So try this since that is what your error message is asking for. There is also a Make Accessible Action in Acrobat XI, but I can't remember if Actions are Pro only. And, please, report back! ~ Jane

There is only manual. Even though it says Pro, it is really for both. Note in this screen shot that it says (Acrobat Pro) if it is for Acrobat Pro—otherwise it is both. Sometimes it says (Windows) or (Macintosh) if it is platform specific. If you download it, it is editable. Delete what you don't like, or comment it out, or simply ignore it. With the summary, try exporting it to Word or Text only to get it onto fewer pages. "Enable accessibility" won't help with comments printing to one page. As the the manual says, it has one function, and that is to create tags so that screen readers such as JAWS can read the document out loud to people who can't see. When your question(s) are answered, don't forget to mark it so other volunteers won't have to keep opening it! And if they are not answered, then ask again! Best, Jane

1. If you select "Comments Only", they will all be on one page without the document. Is that what you are looking for? 2. Actions are only available in Acrobat Pro, not Standard. This is from page 215 of the PDF of the Help for Acrobat Pro XI. 3. Enable Accessibility And Reflow With Tagged Adobe PDF embeds tags in the PDF for screen readers. It's something you select when creating your PDF. This screen shot on the left is from Microsoft Word and you will see what you are looking for. The one on the right is from InDesign and is worded differently. (HINT: you do not need to use Microsoft Word!) 4. In Properties > Initial View, you can only select four of the left hand panes, not the right hand panes. (Too bad!) You can create a custom workspace with the Create Custom Tool that I showed earlier. It includes the right hand panel and the top panel. But no, it will not display when you open the document. You could write an action that would "Go To" > Comments, but, of course, you would have to run the action, so it doesn't make it any easier. I don't know JavaScript and don't know if you can make an action run when you open a document. You might ask that question outside of this thread. For now, I would move the Comments to the top of the right hand panel so it's easy to see and reach. You can also put in a Feature request: http://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html Also, to get to Create Custom Tool in Acrobat Pro DC, one way is to click Tools, then type part of the word in the search box to filter the list of tools a bit. If you are in Acrobat Pro DC, it is a little different. I didn't see you say which version you are using. The tools show up in the right hand panel and it's a quick click. You can move tools up and down with a right click, and you create your own toolbar with the Create Custom tool button. The interface changed and it is so much easier to use now and to customize, but at its core—when you start working—it's pretty much the same dialog boxes and the same Acrobat.

Felipegrin, Illustrator is a complex yet amazing program. It is almost 30 years old. If you are looking for a simple program, this may not be the one for you. But if you are looking for a program that, once you have mastered it, is powerful beyond imagination, then stick with it. You can ask questions here, and volunteers will help you. Your questions indicate that you want a better understanding of the program, and you might benefit from taking a class from an Adobe Authorized Training Center with an Adobe Certififed Trainer. You will find a list on the Adobe website, and many have online options to join live classes. Those of us who are trying to help you can't rewrite the program, we can only tell you how it works! Photoshop and Illustrator were sold as separate programs until Creative Suite, and they do not work the same way, including with gradients. PS is raster, and AI is vector. Easiest for the forum if you ask only one question per thread, but here's more on the gradient: yes, you can do that. 1. Shift click the ramp if necessary to change to CMYK. 2. Select a marker in the gradient panel. Note below that the far right marker is selected. 3. Select colors in the Color panel. Or Option click colors in the Swatches panel. Or double click the marker. RCraighead, If you are in CC 2015, you can do just that! Click the .... at the bottom of the Toolbar, then click Edit toolbar and move your unwanted tools to the hidden tools area. They will still be available if you hit the dots again, but it's harder to click them accidentally.

Using Adobe Distiller is old technology, and there are newer, better ways. Here is a paper written by Leonard Rosenthal that will explain it thoroughly. If you are on a Mac, one way is to multiple-select the images in the Finder. Then drag them onto the Acrobat icon in the Dock. When you get the alert asking if you want them to be in one file, select No. I believe it is similar in Windows. It might be multiple select and then right-click or drag to the Acrobat Window. I downloaded a PDF from EZPass so I can return my dad's transponder, as he is no longer driving. Grrr, it irks me when I find forms that are not fillable! I thought it would be fastest to make it fillable, and then ran into the strangest error message and Acrobat DC would not create the form fields. Here is the message: "Adobe Acrobat DC was unable to make this document accessible because of the following error: Bad PDF; error in processing fonts. <cannot find CMap resource file> [1] Please note that some pages of this document may have been changed. Because of this failure, you are advised to not save these changes." Here is the form at the EZPass website: https://www.ezpassva.com/pdfs/returnedtag.pdf Yes, it would be easy and quick to use the editing tools or commenting tools and proceed. But what the heck is going on with this PDF? Facts: 1. Application: Microsoft Word - returned tag (What is "returnedtag") 2. Producer: doPDF Desktop Ver 5.0 Build 216 (Windows Server 2003) 3. No security 4. Fonts that are used are ArialMT, Calibri, TimesNewRomanPS-BoldMT, TimesNewRomanPSMT 5. My computer stats are Acrobat Pro DC 2015.010.200060, Yosemite 10.10.5, iMac Retina 27" Late 2014, 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5, AMD Radeon R9 6. My personal stats are I have been using Acrobat since version 2 and am an ACI. Again, I have workarounds without creating a form. But it really bugs me that I can't generate form fields from this PDF and that I can't figure out why. And it must be said, who the heck wrote this error message? "Bad PDF"? Go to your kennel! In the form edit mode, select Tab Order from the AZ dropdown. In the menu to the left (3 lines), select order tabs manually, then show tab numbers to see how your tabs are numbered. You can then reorder the tabs using this menu. Does this answer your question?

Is it only the one PDF that you got in email, or is it all PDFs that you cannot double-click? If it is only the one that was emailed, it could be either in a newer version or it could be corrupt. And did you say you can open with File > Open?

Yes, Sarah, there is a way to reset preferences in Adobe Acrobat. I copied the following information from page 11 of the Acrobat Help PDF. Does this work? Jane Restore the Acrobat preferences files (Mac OS) Restore the Acrobat preferences files to eliminate problems caused by a damaged preferences file. Note: Re-creating the Acrobat preferences files restores settings to their defaults. 1 Quit Acrobat. 2 Drag the following files from the Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences folder to the Desktop: • Acrobat WebCapture Cookies • com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist or com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro_x86_9.0.plist • Acrobat Distiller Prefs and com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist (if you are troubleshooting an issue with Distiller) • The Acrobat folder, which contains preferences for forms (MRUFormsList), collaboration (OfflineDocs), and color settings (AcrobatColor Settings.csf) 3 Restart Acrobat If the problem recurs after you restore the Acrobat preferences files, then the problem isn’t related to preferences files. To restore custom settings, drag the files you moved in step 2 back to their original location. Then click OK to the alert “A newer item named ‘[filename]’ already exists in this location. Sarah, Can you open the PDF by first launching Acrobat, then choosing File > Open? If yes, bring up Get Info on any PDF (File menu or right-click or Cmd+I). In the Get Info, select: 1. Open with: Adobe Acrobat 2. Change All Then try double-clicking a PDF again. Does it work now? Jane Edwards

Print to PDF was correct 20 years ago, but it no longer is. Now you should do it from within the software if possible. In Word, Excel, and PP (2007 and later) there is an Acrobat tab if Acrobat is installed. First click Preferences, because Acrobat and Office are both looking there. Then click Create PDF to generate the PDF. ~ Jane

Print to PDF is usually the last resort for making a PDF. It is not the preferred method if another is available. As Willi said, list the applications.

Way back in the beginning, the proper way to create a PDF was to Print to a PostScript file, then open the PostScript file in the Distiller (after choosing the correct joboptions). Distiller is still part of Acrobat, but there are newer and better ways to create PDFs. For the most part, use the new, better ways.
