Thank you for the report and the file. I looked at it and if you click on the gear icon in the options bar for the Artboard Tool, and select Auto-size Canvas, you'll be able to see the contents.

Yes, this is as designed and has been this way for a long time. Switching colors resets the Shift-connecting-straight-line functionality. Making this work would be a new feature request. We would also need to specify what happens to that line if this worked; would it be a gradient from foreground to background of that straight line or just a solid line using the current foreground color? Should there be options to specify what happens and if so, where do those options live and what's the UI/UX?

I watched your video again and it looks like the dual brush is 244px, larger than the primary and is getting applied again when they come close to the current stroke again. The way to avoid that is to make the dual smaller than the primary or primary bigger than the dual one.

The more complex and the larger the brush tip, the slower it will draw on canvas. Double that by using 2 complex brush tips set to 200px with spacing set to 1% and smoothing applied, you'll get very slow strokes. I can't see what your Smoothing setting is set to in the options bar but there are also options that you can toggle on/off by clicking on the gear icon next to Smoothing that might help (Stroke Catch-up, Catch-up on Stroke End). To make the applied strokes faster, increase your spacing to around 5% and turn smoothing off.

If you try to resize the Save As / Save a Copy dialog, does that resolve the issue? There is an issue that presents only on OS 12.3, where the Save button is greyed out and resizing the dialog fixes it - that is an Apple issue and they are aware of it. From what you're describing @Michael23669891ctuy that doesn't sound like what you're running into. What OS are you on?

Hi @Alexandre15A9 I tried this and was able to get the pressure on my tablet to hit Maximum resulting in 100% opacity with either setting. Looking at the video you attached, Maximum pressure is never reached.

An after-thought, double check to make sure the layer you are painting on in the Layers panel have both Fill and Opacity at 100% and that the Blend Mode is set to Normal.

Hi @Taylor23341426e0ad, Thanks for the report and screenshots, very helpful. I thought I was able to repro but realized my Flow was less than 100%. Once I max'd that out, all worked as expected. Granted I'm on a Surface Studio running Win11 instead of a Surface Pro 7.
PSUserConfig.txt may also be clouding the issue. Please remove that since it is designed as a workaround with external tablets (Wacom, etc). It can cause undesired results on a Surface device with the Surface pen.
Does this happen with other brushes or just one in particular? If just one, please attach it so we can take a look. Can you also attach screenshots of Brush Tip Shape and Shape Dynamics? That may reveal something.
Thankyou!

Could save that brush, export it and attach it here? I have not been able to repro this. Also can you include a screenshot of the whole Photoshop app frame including the entire canvas (may need to zoom out) and Brush Settings? Thanks

Hello and thank you for the report. I don't think this feature was ever available for the Dodge tool. I looked back as far as Photoshop 2018 (19.1.7) and it is also greyed out there. Do you have a previous version of Photoshop where you can enable this for the Dodge tool?

Here are a few things that might help.
Go to Preferences > Technology Previews and make sure Enable Content Credentials (Beta) is NOT checked. Make sure Smoothing is set to a low number or off. This initial lag can happen with more complicated brushes that use patterns, scattering and have Enable airbrush-style build-up effects NOT enabled (icon in the tool options bar at the top). If you use one of the General Default brushes (Hard Round for example) you shouldn't see any of the initial lag you are describing.

Try this and let me know if it resolves the lag. With Photoshop launched, press Ctrl+K to open Preferences, click on Technology Previews, and check Deactivate Native Canvas, click OK, then quit and relaunch Photoshop. Let me know if that resolves the lag. Thanks.

just an afterthought - is Smoothing on and Pull String Mode enabled? That would be one possible cause of what you're seeing.

Hi @haaidan Could you help us reproduce this problem? Does it happen with all mixer brushes or one in particular? Do you know if you are using PSUserConfig.txt in your Photoshop preferences folder on disk? If you are, what is in that file? Would it be possible for you to create and share a video exhibiting the problem with the full app window in view so we can see what some of your brush settings are and what your layer structure looks like? Thanks!

More info on this workaround if you're curious: sprk (SPRing-loaded Keyboard-shortcut) and the value is in milliseconds. So "sprk 200" is 200ms of holding the key down to trigger it as a spring-loaded keyboard shortcut. If you increase the number, say to 1000ms, then you will need to hold the key down longer (more than 1000ms) in order to return to the previous tool. Hope that makes sense and is helpful.

Steps:
Use the following optional extension (see this kb article for info on optional extensions) in PSUserConfig.txt:
sprk <time in milliseconds>
The time value above reflects the time for which a key needs to be pressed to enable the spring-loaded feature
Keep the time value above to a large value (e.g. 20000 which means that a key needs to be pressed for 20 seconds for spring-loading to activate for it)
This change went into 23.0.1 and in recent testing, I found that 100 to 300 works well.

Hi @Claudia5C11 Thanks for throwing this out. Photoshop doesn't officially test or support Huion but some quick tests on my end with Wacom tablets shows me that if you are using WinTab (PSUserConfig.txt in Preferences folder), unchecking Spacing will indeed lose pressure/tilt. If you remove or disable that file and use Windows Ink (enable in Wacom Tablet Properties, Calibrate tab), that might work for you. It works for Wacom but since I don't have Huion tablet, I'm not sure of results there.

I'm not seeing this issue but I'm also on the most current version of Photoshop (23.1.1). What tablet are you using and are the drivers up to date? Also, if you could go to Help > System Info, copy that, paste it into a text file and attach it here, that would help also. Thanks!

Thanks for the video @Krista A16E5 ! I was able to see the flicker you're seeing in the 4k version of the youtube vid you posted. I looks like you were switching between eraser and brush tools and also using the Alt key to sample. Looks like the Alt key, which is an OS accelerator key used to access menu commands for accessibility, may be a contributing factor to this. OS and Photoshop handoffs not playing nice along with some recent GPU changes.

Thanks @Pixium! After fine tuning things a bit more, I am able to repro with a custom brush and other Kyle Webster brushes. I did notice that it does not occur on the computed brushes, i.e. the default General Brushes (Hard Round). Which of the solutions did you try from BoroCG's video that didn't work? Enable airbrush-style build-up effects or the PSUserConfig.txt (WinTab) one?

Thanks for the report @Pixium I'm not able to repro here on my Win10 machine with Cintiq. Do you have the latest Wacom Drivers (6.3.45-1)? Also try disable/enable Tip-Up Assist in the Wacom Tablet Properties > Options... Also, does this happen with one particular brush or all of them; try General Brushes > Hard Round.
