im creating seemless visual effects loops for a project when i have a short loop created i want to make it repeat a few times and have some changing graphics overlayed ontop so... is there a quick way to copy / paste and stair-step the loops in the timeline so that they connect end to end without any gaps? because moving it around manually is a bit tedious

im wondering about exporting from after effects i have a project which will be displayed on a stage on various screens the display will come from one video output, which for arguments sake we will call the "main comp" as a reference i created a comp in my project where i duplicated the main comp into various instances , converted them to 3d objects and placed them around in a virtual stage, to give myself an idea how it will look when its on stage my question is, when i am exporting my main comp does this kind of thing slow down my computer? i though not, since the 3d comp is above my main comp in hierarchy and therefore its not in the main comp as such.

i am editing some visuals for a stage production which will be displayed using resolume software onto various LED panels for this i must export from after effects in DXV format i downloaded the DXV codec from resolume website, but it doesnt show up in after effects drop down menu in the format options, even after i restart my computer my colleague has it on his computer, and it shows up when choosing quicktime as the format, and choosing format settings, it can be seen in the drop down menu he has an apple mac book, i dont know if this makes a difference. i am using windows 10 proteus IV 4.4Ghz, 32GB, nvidia 1060GTX 8GB any ideas?

im noticing on export my videos are quite noisey i was exporting the medium bitrate files to preview them and show to my customers, and didnt notice the noise but then when i reached a point that the customer was happy with i went to export the final version in as high quality as i could, if figured that since its destined for youtube ,then the youtube HD option must be the best export option, but its very noticable noisey, which caused me to go back and have to make adjustments to the color grade etc... notably the medium bitrate export didnt seem so noisey, of course it had its own artifacts related with the lower bitrate, but i dont know if this had a masking effect on the noise, or if indeed im using the wrong settings for my higher quality export the projects were filmed on a canon 70d, with the ISO at 800 or less, which normally does produce some noise ,but i am a bit surprised by the level of noise here, to the point where i find it distracting im willing to accept that perhaps it is simply that i went to heavy on the color grade and simply didnt notice the noise until export, but im rather hoping that this were not the case can anyone there advise me please?

working on a project at the moment (it is a short action film, done in all-one-shot) for some of the action sequences i am compositing effects into them. i cut the section of video file i want to edit and open in after effects but when i attempt a 3d camera track, the camera tracker either doesnt initialize, or it seems to do its job but gives me no tracking info, or it fails. now, when i take the same piece of footage and export it from after effects, and re-import it , the camera tracker works quite efficiently. any ideas whats going on?

thanks what about loading lots of data into your project for example, im working on a project of 20 promotional videos at the moment. from a practical point of view it helps me to have all of the footage in one project (different folders) would it make my computer very slow if i load all of the footage of all 20 videos into the project ? should i create individual premiere projects for each video to save computing power?

just wondering of ways to minmise strain on my computer (its not the best computer, but i must go on for the moment ) you know how people use proxys for 4k footage? well, is that a viable option for HD footage too? say scaling it down to SD while i get the edit together? also, i like to apply a color grade via adjustment layers, but does that slow the computer down more than, say, applying the color grade directly to the clip? any other suggestions? (apart from upgrading or increasing ram etc, all of which will be done when the money starts to roll in 🙂 )

haha, well it is useful advice jim, but its not practical for me. my real hope was that there would be a way to get premiere to just have a recent file list a more like other programs (by ticking a checkbox in the menu or something), no harm in wishing....... problem i was having is that i have about 5 different external 1TB hard discs with different projects, new and old. and id like to be able to see the order in which i have been working on them at a glance. the fact that menu was changing was an added annoyance i didnt need. i can accept however that there can be some benefits aswell. i have learned a couple of things from this thread. I have upgraded my internal hard disc to 2TB, (im a DJ aswell, so 1TB is already taken with my music viceo collection, i cant afford to upgrade to (for example) 4TB , because i have more pressing issues to take care of first such as a new Laptop

"That makes no sense" Jim, the point i was making is that it is a defeatist approach working only on internal drives would mean , for me, that i would have to keep 900GB of data (the current projects im working on this month) on my internal hard disc all to accomodate for the wierd way that adobe handles the recent files list. THAT would make no sense , as it would fill the hard drive close to 100% i guess i could save all the project files into the internal HD (if thats what John T meant) but it would also cause problems for my workflow as i like to keep the project together with the data.

by that logic you could also ask "why use adobe Premiere pro at all then?" i can think of plenty of programs that do not lose the recent files list depending on which hard drive is connected, its not helpful.

one feature which kind of annoys me, is that when i start up Premiere , if i do not have the relevant external hard drive connected to my computer, the recent projects list will change (can even go completely empty), i can no longer see the actual recent projects. is there a way to stop that? also is there a way to make the recent projects list longer? like 50 projects long?

i have been asked to do some VFX work on a film thing is they are working on 4k footage, and my computer would probably burst into flames if it saw 4k footage its just about ok with HD the editor mentioned the possibility of workin on HD and him relinking the 4k footage on his end when i send it back to him any of you guys know the feasability of this? most of the work i will be doing will involve masking out puppet strings, and im concerned that there would be unpredictable results if we were to relink 4k footage after editing the project using HD footage...the masks could go haywire etc. any suggestions on how i might deal with this?

need a bit of help here....a client wants a file in "prores" format. the actual words they used was "Prores or Uncompressed (not prores h264) im using premiere cc 2017, on a PC but there is not any prores preset that i can see in the export options. what can i do to give them what they want? or some format that is the same ?

i have noticed an issue when collaborating with other editors now , on two occasions . this is when i open a sequence which they have emailed to me, normally from a previous version of PP. on one occasion it was from an earlier version of v2017 and on another occasion it was from CS5. pretty much the same issue occurs each time. when i convert to 2017 and load it onto my computer, it seems there is huge trouble playing back the clips, they constantly freeze and stop as though they were loaded with too many effects. even if i turn off or remove all effects the playback problems dont go away. this means im having to pause the sequence every few seconds in order to see it play properly for a few seconds before it stops again. a very tedious and hard way to have to work. if i create a sequence myself, (for arguments sake lets call it 2nd draft) and load in some clips from the project window i can play them back with no problem, but once i copy in a clip from the other editors sequence (draft 1) that clip will continue to have problems as will every other clip from draft 1. wierdly enough, this even happens when i 'render and replace' the clip. if create a preview file, (render in-out) however, the video seems to play back ok any ideas as to whats happening ? im using a toshiba sattelite i7-2670 2.6GHz 8GB ram 2TB hard disc, with 170GB free i know its not the best computer in the world, but what irks me is how my own sequences can work fine, but the imported sequence does not. that suggests a problem which is not related with my actual computing power.

just wondering this the method for creating subtitles in premiere pro is flawed. for example, if i have a full length documentary with subtitles, and i want to change the font,i have to open each clip individually and change it....that could be 500 clips. i also cannot put a black box behind the text to make it easier to read, there is no option for that. when i ask for advice from friends and other film makers, im told to use other software so, my question is, when exactly are adobe going to realise this and create a feature within adobe premiere that enables the user to create and edit subtitles quickly and efficiently? hope my question does not appear arrogant but i do find it frustrating that a world class editing software such as premiere can be so lacking in this area, in fact its so difficult to believe that im kind of hoping someone will chime in and point out what i am missing.

ok ! so im going to do a few things and see if it works, im clearing my cache folder, also moving old projects onto spare hard discs, i have created 2/300GB space so far. i also discovered my HD is 5400rpm what upgrades would you recoomend to remedy all this? if i upgrade to a 7000 rpm drive? or i was also considering going for a solid state 500GB for the system and my active projects, and mounting my 2TB into the CD drive compartment for storage, or lesser used projects

a new problem seems to have come along recently with my film projects in that the playback stutters easily and when this happens the sound is crackly. the crackly sound reminds me a lot of when i used to use a computer for making music back in the year 2000 when i would apply too many effects and the processor would bottlneck out on me. its the same sound. switching off any effects via adjustment layers, and creating a render preview does nothing to help it, and in fact i have given up creating render previews in v 2017 because either they dont help, or they take ages to render, way too long in fact. the bad playback happens even at 1/4 quality. im having issues even with a short 1 film that i am just beginning to edit and have no color grade or effects on the clips yet. i do normally have after effects open tough because this is the nature of my work so i do not know if the problem has a connection with after effects or not. a dynamic link between AE and premire is definitely prone to playback issues, as normal, but it was never so bad before. the problem has gotten so bad now that it is hindering my ability to work. just the other day i could not edit the sound on a film because i could not tell if the sound was in sync or not with the stuttering image. if now even animating the opening title to a short film i cannot animate it, because i cant even get it to play back properly in order to see if the animation looks right. the title was being animated using element 3d in after effects which admittady can be a little taxing on the computer power, but i have done so much more in the past without ever having issues, this time its impossible to work with it. any ideas? i have a toshiba sattelite 8GB memory 1TB (77GB free)

i just rendered out 2 short films with the maximise render quality check box ticked, the result is that the render quality was much much worse with the box ticked than not ticked is there something im missing here ? or is this another bug with v 2017 ?

actually the problem is worse than i though, even when i have switched the res to full res, it still comes out very small. (i didnt accidentally reduce the scale of the clip either, scale is 100%)

i noticed this new problem where , if i have a clip dynamically linked to after effects, if i had been viewing it at 1/4 resolution while editing in AE the corresponding image then shows up very small in premiere i think it is a bug which has showed up since i have upgraded to 2017, it means i have to go into after effects find every clip and flick it to full res ,before exporting. bit of a pain no? is it a bug?
