Thanks. It did work in a Word file. And cleaning the font cache as suggested below solved the problem.

When I drag font families to the "add fonts" window nothing appears, so I'm not sure if they are there or not. Or, more recently, when I try to click "Done" nothing happens. Or the entire window is grayed out, as if it is inactive. Fonts I was successful in adding can't or won't show their previews, and are not active in InDesign even though they register as activated. Shouldn't they automatically appear there?

Thanks, I did and they helped. Apparently it's best to open the program from Creative Cloud, not the desktop icon.

I tried holding down the keys; that didn't work. I searched unsuccessfully for the preferences file, even after pasting the exact name supplied into the "find" bar. Also unsucessful in searching for InDesign Saved Data and InDesign Defaults as such. A lot of files show up, but I don't know what they are. Many are marked .xml.

Hi @Grundoon Groundhog :
My apologies—I linked to the wrong explantion. I have edited my reply with a simply step-by-step.
I am happy to continue to offer help—if you still need it—but we have taken this thread way off topic. If you want additional help:

Thank you! I've also just gone through my master documents to be sure that "no character style" is selected. Hopefully that will help.

The links panel indicates that the “Braverman-H84A0325.tif” and “Braverman-H84A0467.tif” are missing but the screenshot of the link you have attached is named “7.Braverman-H84A0325.tif”, so it is not the same file.
By the way, the file names should not include dot, except the one preceding the extension.

Many thanks. I've started a brand new document with freshly made styles, but I'll try your suggestion so I don't have to reformat what I've already formatted several times.

Interesting idea. Would it still be fairly flexible? I think just having it there will be such an improvement, I'm wiling to work around it. I did report this issue as an improvement to made.

Yes, I did that, and it still happened. I'm also having a problem with a nested style that should be a single character 3 line drop cap in a special font at the beginning of an article in a magazine, but insists on making it the wrong font followed by a character in the special font (but not dropped). I've tried to remove my preferences which may be corrupt but the program wouldn't start at all when I did.

I found a script that will do this. https://franciscomorales.org/2012/10/18/how-to-extract-highlighted-text-from-a-pdf-file/ I tested it on a document with 6 comments, of which 3 had replies. It broke the comments into tow groups, as shown below. The replies were grouped together, as opposed to being next to their original comment. But this is a start and I bet a scripter could work on the script to get it to do what you want. At least this way you wouldn't have to copy and paste each comment and reply individually.

There is an Adobe Reader forum. Posting in one of the Acrobat forums tends to indicate that the poster is using Acrobat. Reader also has very similar menu option and shortcuts when the feature is question is available in both products.

I don't understand WHY the sudden insistent change to "Canadian French" which I certainly never asked for. As Test Screen noted language is a character setting and not a document or application setting. You want language to be a character attribute if you have a document with different languages—you might have english text with an excerpt in french, or a french english dictionary.

https://forums.adobe.com/people/Grundoon+Groundhog wrote Text flowed from Microsoft Word into an InDesign document keeps disappearing, leaving part of the column blank. If I type in more text, or copy and paste it, it disappears. Yet another reason this might happen is if you have text wrap on as a default and flow text into columns and the large text wrap pushes the text out of the frame. If this happens again, please read through these ideas and see which one applies. If you don't figure it out, take a screen shot. There are several things that could cause it, as you can see. Most likely only one of them actually did. Glad it's working now!

I'm in agreement that there is an issue with an override. Select the paragraph and Alt/Opt click on [None] in the Character Styles Panel, and then Alt/Opt click on Body or [Basic Paragraph] in the Paragraph Styles panel to remove all overrides. Then if your character style is assigned via Drop Caps & Nested Styles, a single click to assign the Paragraph style will take of it. Remove all formatting: Set up Drop Cap Character Style within the Paragraph Style: One click to assign the paragraph tag with the Drop Cap Style:

Well, in that I gave up and changed the style, yes. I wondered if it was because the Word document styles were overriding the InDesign styles, but that wasn't it. I'll try your earlier instructions later. Thanks!

Hello GrundoonGroundhog, We're sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. Comments can be imported from a PDF document. You can also import comments from a Forms Data Format (FDF) file or an XFDF file, which is an XML-based FDF file. You cannot open and view FDF files or XFDF files on their own. The above-shared screenshot is same for the latest version of Acrobat available. If you wish to request any changes or modifications in the current feature or request a new feature, you can fill the Adobe wish form Feature Request/Bug Report Form Feel free to update this discussion for any further assistance. Thanks, Anand Sri.
